A truly British school experience
ST Mikes Senior School stands in its own private grounds of several acres in the village of Bryn which overlooks the Gower Peninsula. It is about 30 minutes by car from Swansea or one hour away from Cardiff. St. Mikes School was first established in year 1923 and has been situated in Bryn since 1928.
St Mikes is a school with 90% local (British) students and only 10% international students at present. For any international students who are considering to study in the UK, this would be the kind of “truly-British School Experience” that one would look forward to and benefit from.
Emma Lewis, a former student of St Mikes and present headmistress of St Mikes Senior School said. “As a former pupil it is an honour to be appointed as the new Headteacher of St Mikes School. Every individual pupil is important and the dedication of the staff who provide stimulating, challenging learning experiences supports our family ethos of achieving success in all areas of life,” said Lewis.
“We will continue to work in partnership with both pupils and parents to allow all our pupils to enjoy their whole school experience. I welcome the opportunity to be able to show what an excellent school we have at St Mikes and allow visitors to the school to experience at first hand the “buzz of learning” taking place every day, so that all pupils achieve their best and have positive experiences of their time at the school.” Lewis added.
St. Mikes is a local school with a national reputation, consistently listed in the UK top 100 Independent Schools for A level results. They have regularly been placed first coeducational independent school in Wales for GCSE results, at times achieving a remarkable 75% at grade A and A*. Almost all their sixth form pupils go on to the universities of their choice and have a long tradition of sending pupils to Oxford and Cambridge. They provide a learning environment where pupils excel – small class sizes, flexibility, a strong culture of discipline and a positive work ethic.
Boarding at St. Mikes
The new purpose-built accommodation block will be ready by January 2013 with all single rooms with en-suite facilities. The response is overwhelming and there are a few rooms left only at this point of printing for this article.
The existing boarding house - Park House is an historic mansion set in an acre of grounds in the village of Llangennech, just a few minutes away from the school site.
It offers high standard accommodation and a comfortable living space where our boarders can be sure of a positive, welcoming and supportive stay during their time with us. They employ House Parents who live on site with their family and provide a homely, nurturing environment. Pupils are accommodated in single or shared study bedrooms.
Boarders are expected to attend supervised study periods from Monday-Friday to complete coursework, homework and revision.
Elite Scholars Programme – January 2013 intake
St Mikes Elite Scholars Programme (ESP), under its international student funds, is offering five scholarship places for deserving students who wish to study A Levels in the UK and aiming high for Oxford and Cambridge University. ESP is a merit scholarship; the assessment is based on the candidate’s academic results, extra curricular profile, as well as other contributions that he or she could bring to the School. The percentage of the scholarship will be based on performance assessments carried out by the School, and so it defers from every individual. The assessment also includes an interview by the Headmistress and the panel interviewer – final selection criteria. For application, contact St Mikes sole-representative in Malaysia – ASA Overseas Education Specialist. The closing date for the ESP application is Dec 20 2012.
