Awards galore for KBU
KBU International College (KBU) has done it again and this time the college has made a clean sweep during the Nippon Paint Young Designer Award 2012 (NPYDA), receiving all the awards presented for the Interior Architecture category.
KBU emerged as the Best College/University with its students Lim Meng Yeu and Chu Sze Yong shining the brightest as they grabbed the gold and silver awards while 2012 honorary mentions were given to Ee Wil Ken and Lee Xuan Xuan.
Chua Huwi Huwi was also awarded the Best Lecturer title.
The NPYDA which is organised by Nippon Paint was aimed at giving recognition to young, talented designers.
“It was a glorious event for KBU International College as we have swept all the awards. I am indeed very proud,” said KBU School of Design head Siow Yin Yoong.
She added that KBU has maintained yet again its excellent track record in producing top-notch graduates.
“It is evident that the design programmes which are being offered in KBU are of top quality,” she added.
Meng Yeu, who was also identified as the regional winner for his final-year project, Awareness Center of Humanity, said: “I feel won Lim the award is a five-star homeless shelter that provides more than luxurious living; it provides counselling services.
“The design of the shelter brings the outside world indoor, giving the homeless a sense of familiarity that aids with the counselling process. It places functionality ahead of all decorative elements. Most of the construction materials are either natural or recycled,” Meng Yeu added.
Sze Yong, the Silver award winner, on the other hand received the award for his ‘ Green Library” project. “The proposal is to design a green architecture library aimed at educating people about foreign and local architecture, as well as eco-friendly architecture through very happy and proud of myself. Finally, I feel that my efforts have paid off and recognised.”
The Awareness Centre of Humanity which its content and design,” said Sze Yong. He also added that it was one of the proudest moments in his life to receive the awards given by Nippon Paint.
Students Wil Ken and Xuan Xuan received the honorary mentions for their concepts, “Living inside antiques” and “Retorno Artist Gallery” accordingly.
