China nod for private university

-

WITH more than 35 years in the industry, it is not surprising that SEGi is gaining worldwide recognition as a high-quality education provider.

This was confirmed when Deputy Minister of Higher Education Hou Kok Chung recently announced that China’s Ministry of Education officially recognised and recommended SEGi – among 71 Malaysian institutions of higher learning – to Chinese citizens.

SEGi was one of only 26 private universities in the list of 71 institutions. The rest were public universities, university colleges, teacher training institutes and an art academy.

The Ministry of Higher Education had submitted the list of approved and recognised educational institutions and degree programmes to China’s Education Ministry on July 2012. This list was approved by the Ministry of Education of China (MOE China) in mid-January this year.

SEGi was among other higher learning institutions recommended by the Education Ministry of China through the Framework Agreement to Facilitate Mutual Recognition in Academic Higher Education Qualifications.

According to Hou, the recognition given by China proved that the Chinese government has a high level of confidence in Malaysia’s universities. Apart from China, SEGi is also recognised by countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia, as evidenced by dual degree awards given by a list of established universities from these two countries.

Programmes with dual degrees are for business, accountancy, information technology, engineering, education, environmental technology and mass communication. These dual awards signify that these degree programmes offered at SEGi University are of equivalent quality and standard as programmes offered at the UK and Australia universities.

SEGi’s programmes are also highly sought after by students from China, South Korea, India, Maldives, Iran, Qatar, Mongolia as well as various countries in the Middle East, East Europe and Africa. Armed with degrees from SEGi, they are able to gain employment in their own countries or abroad.

One of the latest testimonies of SEGi’s success in producing brilliant Business and Accountancy graduates is the convocation ceremony for University of Greenwich held on Nov 17 last year. A total of 490 graduates from SEGi College Kuala Lumpur and SEGi College Subang Jaya successfully completed their degree programmes.

SEGi College Kuala Lumpur is proud of its 40 graduates who scored First Class Honours. Of the 40, three were from BA (Hons) in Business Management, three from BA (Hons) Human Resource Management, 31 from BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance, two from BSc (Computing) and one Distinction holder from MSc Information Systems Management.

SEGi University Group (SEGi) offers a wide variety of Business & Accountancy programmes from certificate to master’s level and students have the luxury of choice to enrol in SEGi’s home-grown programmes or twinning programmes with a list of reputable British and Australian universities.

School-leavers may begin with either the Certificate in Business or Business Studies, or Foundation in Commerce to articulate to either diploma or degree programmes. SEGi has a wide range of diploma programmes in business administration, marketing, accounting, human resource management and Islamic banking.

Working adults who wish to upgrade their knowledge and skills in Marketing, Accountancy or Human Capital Management can opt for the short one-and-a-half-year Executive Diploma programmes available at various SEGi campuses.

SEGi University Group’s partner universities are the University of Sunderland (UK), University of Abertay Dundee (UK), University of Greenwich (UK), Teesside University (UK) and University of Southern Queensland (Australia). All of them are accredited and recognised globally.

Not only does SEGi ensure its programmes are competitive, up-to-date and practical, SEGi also strives to create a global environment for its students. Among the myriad of activities at its six campuses is the annual International Cultural Night which celebrates the diversity of cultures and nationalities.
