Strong foundation for A-levels

-

PRE-UNIVERSITY study is an important educational phase in preparing students for undergraduate studies.

One of the most well-established educational pathways which provides a strong foundation in preparation for a degree is the Cambridge GCE A-Level programme.

The Cambridge GCE A-Level is a pathway that academically trains students to grow in maturity, capability, skill and intellect.

It is accepted as an entry requirement for undergraduate studies in almost all the universities worldwide.

TAR College School of Pre-University Studies (SPUS) is known for its delivery of the internationally recognised Cambridge GCE A-Level programme for over 26 years since its inception in 1987.

Its track record shows that many of its Cambridge GCE A-Level students have been accepted into some of the world’s most prestigious universities namely, University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, University of Manchester, Imperial College London, Cardiff University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, University of New South Wales and Australia National University.

Developing young adults into independent and all-rounded individuals who can take on the challenges of undergraduate studies after doing the Cambridge GCE A-Level programme is one of the many successes of TAR College.

Many of its students have gone on to excel in pursuing their tertiary education.

One highly commendable effort was made by a Cambridge GCE A-Level student, Tan Zhai Gen ( pic), who scored 4A*’s and achieved the Best Overall Performance for his Cambridge GCE A-Level (Science) in the June 2012 examination.

He felt privileged to have studied at TAR College as it made it possible for him to pursue his dreams of studying Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at the University of Oxford on a MyBrain Scholarship from the Higher Education Ministry.

Recently, Tan was back for the year-end holidays from Britain and he shared his experience with his juniors at TAR College.

Tan talked enthusiastically about his road to Oxford. With the help of some friends and consciously preparing for the interviews, getting into Oxford was not as dreadful as many thought.

“Studying in Oxford does not feel like ‘ studying’ in the Asian sense. It is to immerse oneself in the environment. Nothing is served on a silver platter. You need to spend time to do research on your own and at your own pace.”

Tan commented that the Cambridge GCE ALevel in SPUS gave him a solid foundation for his studies at Oxford. He also commended the lecturers who were passionate and helpful.

In short, the solid foundation provided by TAR College has paved the way for Tan to achieve his dreams.
