Budding mooters at ATC
ADVANCE Tertiary College (ATC) has, in the past few years, established itself as a force to be reckoned with in moot court competitions both nationally and internationally.
With its 25 years of expertise in teaching law on the University of London International Bachelor of Laws (LLB), it has produced many championship-winning teams that have brought glory to both ATC and Malaysia.
In line with ATC’s continued commitment to mooting, ATC recently refurbished its facilities and introduced a dedicated moot court for all budding mooters. This impressive room replicates the courtroom environment.
Mooting is a staple for any law student. A student will be given a set of facts on a particular area of law and he will need to formulate legal arguments and present the best possible case for his fictional client.
Moot court competitions are held around the world and the best mooters from every law school will be pitted against each other in friendly competition.
ATC principal and deputy chief executive officer Dr Danny Choong is seen as the driving force behind its mooting success.
“I see mooting as a quintessential skill that all law students must develop. It will hold them in good stead in their chosen career and in life in general,” said Dr Choong.
ATC has an active moot programme where students are encouraged to participate in the internal moot competition every year and compete for the Tun Abdul Hamid trophy.
From this competition, talent is spotted and then picked and trained to represent ATC in national and international competitions.
The most recent successes at ATC include emerging as champions at the seventh LAWASIA moot competition national rounds and representing Malaysia in the International LAWASIA competition in Bali, as well as in three previous editions of the international competition held in Vietnam, India and South Korea.
Quality education at affordable prices has been the hallmark of ATC’s success.
