Making a difference in society

-

DO you want to make a difference in people’s lives? Do you want to work in a professional, exciting and stimulating health care environment? If this is what you want, consider a career in nursing.

Nurses work closely with doctors and are an integral part of the health care team. They can work in a variety of health settings from accident and emergency to working in patients’ homes.

Nurses can also specialise or get advanced training in a particular area, whether it is working with infants or working in a fast-paced emergency room.

In order to become a nurse, you must undergo nursing education or training, which will equip you with the necessary nursing knowledge and skills to provide safe and effective client care upon graduation.

This is one of the programmes offered at the International Medical University (IMU), Malaysia’s first and most established private medical and health care university founded 21 years ago.

This university is owned by IMU Health Sdn Bhd, one of the key subsidiaries of IHH Healthcare Bhd, one of the largest listed private health care providers in the world based on market capitalisation, with a focus on markets in Asia, central and east Europe, Middle East and North Africa (CEEMENA) regions.

At IMU, the four-year nursing degree curriculum is developed to

meet international standards.

As a nursing student, you will have the clinical opportunities and exposure in private and public hospitals and community settings.

This will prepare you to deliver safe and effective care to the community in health care agencies, giving you a distinct and added advantage in your career.

You will also have the opportunity to work at IHH Group of Hospitals, locally and internationally.

With a high demand for nurses worldwide, you will be able to look for employment at home and abroad once you are registered with the Malaysian Nursing Board. IMU graduates have consistently secured 100% passes in the Malaysian Nursing Board Licensure examinations with more than 50% of them currently working in Singapore.

Maslina Yusak, a graduate of the IMU nursing programme, who is working as a nurse in Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur, said: “The four years of training in IMU equipped me with a strong foundation to be a professional nurse. The programme not only provided me with nursing knowledge, but also the essential competencies to carry out my duties.

“This is very useful for me as I am working in an emergency department in a private hospital where patients come from different walks of life.”

The degree in nursing offered by IMU provides an opportunity for students to integrate with those from the medical and other health sciences programmes.

This promotes inter-professional learning and close friendships to form, setting the foundation for future working relationships which may lead to effective business networking after graduation.

Commencement for this programme is in July and September of each year.

Application for this programme is now open. If you are a student with good people skills, excellent communication skills and has an interest in nursing, make an online application today and begin an exciting career that is versatile and of service to society.
