Learn from the baking experts
THE Malaysian Institute of Baking (MIB), an industry pioneer, has been stirring career cauldrons since 1987.
Its 25-year presence in the education sector ensures that students are equipped with the necessary knowledge and understanding of food sciences, one of the reasons why it has been accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
Students who intend to study at MIB will find a wide range of courses to suit their needs as it offers academic programmes and the MIB Learning Environment.
Among the academic programmes offered are:
• Diploma in Baking Science & Technology – BST (24 Months)
• Diploma in Patisserie (nine months)
• Certificate in Food Entrepreneurship (14 months)
• Advance Diploma in Culinary Arts, Majoring in Patisserie Studies (nine months).
Upon successful completion of the Diploma in BST, students will be able to further their academic progress at the University of West London and the Culinary Institute of Switzerland.
Students will have an option to pursue the BA (Hons) in International Culinary Arts for a duration of 18 months.
Under the MIB Learning Environment, courses offered are HRDF (Human Resources Development Fund) claimable as MIB in an approved Class A Training Provider:
• Certificate in Baking (two months)
• Advanced Certificate in Baking (two months)
• Certificate in Cake Deco (five sessions)
• Certificate in Culinary Arts (six sessions)
“Life is a wonderful journey, a course that you set by the choices you make each day,” said Gan Si Ni, who received the Industry Excellence Award 2012 from the Malaysian Institute of Baking (MIB).
Gan who graduated in 2010 with a Diploma in Baking Science & Technology from MIB, was also the vice-president of the Bakers of Tomorrow (BOT) Student Club and its current advisor.
Gan, who currently works at Bonjour Garden in Kota Damansara, was the first runner-up in the California Pastry & Baking Challenge 2011.
She also won a study trip to the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in the Best Bread Category, under the guidance of Dr Baker (Don Yong), the founder of MIB.
MIB Open Day
MIB will be offering scholarships to students who have obtained As in SPM. MIB has also arranged a variety of activities for potential students and patrons who come by on April 6 and 7 during its Open Day. Eligible students will be able to apply for the PTPTN study loan. Bursary Grants are also available.
