Becoming a health care professional
AHEALTHCARE professional is an individual with proper education, training and certification who is qualified to engage with patients and society in providing health care services.
At Sime Darby Nursing and Health Sciences College (SDNHSC), education excellence and quality are top priority.
Established in 1995, SDNHSC has expanded with the introduction of courses from Diploma to Postgraduate Certificate level.
Diploma in Nursing
The Diploma in Nursing programme is designed to provide graduates with knowledge, skills and competencies.
Students receive clinical training within its hospitals – Sime Darby Medical Centre Subang Jaya (SDMC SJ) and Sime Darby Medical Centre Ara Damansara (SDMC AD).
Under the guidance and supervision of highly experienced and competent clinical instructors, students are able to develop critical thinking and clinical measuring skills while learning to care for patients.
Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT)
The MLT programme meets the needs of the health care industry through a combination of theoretical and practical training. This programme also includes placing students in medical laboratories within its network of hospitals to provide exposure to the latest medical laboratory technology.
Diploma in Physiotherapy
This programme encompasses comprehensive learning experience with emphasis on hands-on practice. Clinical placements at its network of hospitals such as Sime Darby Medical Centre Subang Jaya (SDMC SJ) are specially designed to meet and exceed the 1,000 hours service requirement stipulated by the World Confederation of Physiotherapy.
The clinical training is supervised and guided by a qualified senior physiotherapist. Students learn to treat patient holistically while minimising risks.
Diploma in Medical Assistant
The Diploma in Medical Assistant programme prepares candidates in the area of basic medical sciences and also professional modules and college elective modules.
Students will experience classroom learning combined with hands-on activities. They will also be exposed to hands-on clinical training via clinical placements within its health care organisations to enhance the clinical knowledge, competencies and skills in major areas of medical, surgical, emergency and trauma.
The scope of this profession evolves from time to time. To date, the scope of pre-hospital care and ambulance services is the responsibility of the Assistant Medical Officer (AMO) who works closely with the medical officers in hospitals.
Foundation in Science
This one-year full-time programme builds students’ capacity for undergraduate university study and prepares them to enter tertiary institutions to pursue quality programmes such as Medicine, Dentistry and Sciences.
Registration for April 2013 is now in progress. The college’s Open Day will be held on April 6 and 20 at Sime Darby Medical Centre Subang Jaya from 10am to 3pm. Walk-in registration at its campus will be open until April 15.
