Leading the way in childhood studies
THE Faculty of Early Childhood Studies (FECS), established in late 2012, is a new department at the UNITAR International University.
As a faculty which specialises in Early Childhood Studies, it caters to the needs and aspirations of those who seek knowledge in this field.
FECS aspires to be the leading faculty of Early Childhood Studies, which offers innovative and the latest knowledge in professional pedagogy to train compassionate academics who will be responsible in educating the young children of today.
FECS’ mission is to produce knowledgeable child-minders who can ensure good values and practices are carried out and educate innovative entrepreneurs in the field of early childhood studies.
The faculty offers programmes at Diploma and Bachelor Degree levels in the area of early childhood studies catered to the needs of working professionals and secondary school leavers.
The Master of Education (MEd) specialising in Early Childhood Education is offered in collaboration with the Graduate School.
Diploma in Early Childhood Education
The Diploma of Early Childhood Education Programme is aimed at preparing students to meet the demands and challenges of the teaching profession at nursery and pre-school levels for both public and private centres.
It also seeks to complement the Government’s target of ensuring that all teachers in the early childhood education system have a bachelor’s degree or at least a diploma.
The Diploma in Early Childhood Education is designed to improve and enhance learners’ pedagogical abilities and teaching skills.
The programme will enable grad- uates to identify the right learning approach suitable for young children.
Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education)
The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) (Hons) focuses on the education of children from birth to age eight.
As more and more parents become dependent on childcare providers, job opportunities for graduates of the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) (Hons) programme will continue to increase.
Graduates are qualified to work in both private as well as public sectors of the education industry.
Jobs can be found in day care, pre-school and recreation centres.
The scope of child-oriented businesses is constantly expanding, so the opportunities for graduates in this field are unlimited.
“The world is rapidly changing and the demand for better education for our young children is ever present,” said FECS dean Associate Professor Dr Bustam Kamri.
“FECS aims to prepare graduates with the ability to educate and take care of young children.
“Parents of young children in the modern age have made parenting more time-pressed with work commitments and professional responsibilities.
“We hope the training that we provide our future educators with will assist in guiding modern-day parents in better educating their young children.”
