More excitement after the walk
tHE Ipoh International Starwalk has always been more than just a sporting event and this year is no exception. An exciting variety show is set to entertain all those who attend.
Participants and their family members can expect to watch a large variety of dances and take part in games and quizzes as they wait for the category and lucky draw winner announcements this coming Sunday.
Among the programmes lined up are Latin dance performances by MY Dancesport Studio which has been supporting Starwalk for three years now.
Studio founder and chairman Michael Yeap said two couples from the studio would be performing three Latin dances: the cha cha, jive and samba.
”I always jump at the chance to let my dancers perform at Starwalk because I want to expose the many young participants there to Latin dance.
”Ipoh folk are generally interested in dancing but are shy to practice publicly so I want them to witness how dancing can give you confidence while also being a healthy form of exercise,” he said.
Then there’s Crystal Dance Studio which will be performing for Starwalk for the second time this year.
Studio principal Phoo Ngan Yian said five girls would perform a Broadway-style ballet, while another five would do a more traditional one.
”The performers this year are completely different from last year’s because I want to let as many of my students experience performing for a large crowd such as at Starwalk.
”They will get very important exposure during the event,” she said.
Meanwhile, visitors can expect an exciting show from Starwalk first-time performer Yencci Dance Studio which is headed by principal Irene Au.
”We will be performing three dances, which are a Latin formation dance, a yoga and a belly dance.
”We try to get our students in as many performances as possible because we want to build their confidence and self-discipline during such events,” she said.
Yencci Dance Studio student Kok Xiang Yao, 13, is excited to be performing for the walk.
”I started dancing about four years ago as a hobby and have enjoyed giving performances ever since.
”Truthfully, if I was not drafted to perform during the event, I would have joined as a participant and walked with my friends,” she laughed.
Ipoh International Starwalk 2013 is jointly organised by Star Publications (M) Bhd and the Ipoh City Council, with the cooperation of the state Education Department.
The walk is divided into the 10km competition Malaysian category, 10km competition International category (open to all with qualifying time below 50 minutes) and 7km non-competition category.
