TO help home cooks save time and money, Rinnai has developed the revolutionary Lotus Burner that cooks food faster, uses less gas and requires less effort to clean than most similiar burners in the market. Featuring the world first “double deck” design, it has won the 2012 HOMEDEC Good Design Award – its third following the 2009 Japan Good Design Award and 2009 Taiwan Good Design Product Award.

“A typical gas burner used in homes has a flame rating of 4.2 kilowatts (kW), with at least 40% heat efficiency,” says Rinnai marketing manager Jean Se. “It means the burner requires a gas input of 4.2kW, and 40% of the heat produced goes into the pot or wok, while 60% is actually lost in the air.”

Now, Rinnai has raised the bar with Lotus – the breakthrough burner, which uses 4.2kW of gas and has a heat efficiency of 50%. Less heat escapes from the wok, resulting in faster cooking time without burning up more gas.

An internal test revealed that Rinnai’s Lotus burner took 257 seconds to heat up two litres of water, whereas a conventional burner took 336 seconds.

The boiling time difference is nearly 30%, which shows that a higher flame rating or gas input doesn’t necessarily lead to better per- formance. This demonstrates that Lotus uses less gas, but performs better than most conventional burners with a higher flame rating.

Apart from its high heat efficiency, the fully sealed burner, double deck design of Lotus requires minimal cleaning and maintenance.

Instead of featuring the conventional design of two separate burner rings, Lotus stacks two rings in a double deck fashion. Simmering is done by the lower deck flame, while stir-frying uses both the upper and lower deck flames.

Having a single burner eliminates the need for a drip pan, a burner ring and burner cap, so there are fewer parts to wash.

In addition, the RB-37GF gas hob that features Lotus is ideal for frying and boiling at the same time. Consisting of Lotus and two single burners arranged in a T-shape, the placement provides the space and capacity for a 40cm wok and two 23cm pots to be used simultaneously. As each burner is equipped with a flame failure safety device, any gas leaks or sudden flame loss will result in an automatic cut-off of its gas supply.
