Tamil rock
FANS of Tamil rock will be in for a treat as an acoustics concert by local, independent bands will take place next week.
The inaugural Tamil Rock: The Acoustic Series will be held on Sept 7 from 6.30pm onwards at the Blackbox, Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur.
While the music industry is thriving, there has been scarcity in terms of opportunity and exposure for local Tamil bands to display their skills. Hence the idea to organise the event was sparked by Maha Bimasakti entertainment together with SAHrM events and Productions. It’s also intended to promote unity within the community and encourage the development of original music.
This unplugged concert, aimed at grooming and providing a platform for upcoming talent from the Tamil music scene, features five rock bands. Performers include Intermezzo (pic), a four-piece pop rock/ alternative band from Seremban, Negeri Sembilan; Suruthi Sutra who’ve been playing gigs around town for a decade; Livewires, a Malaccabased band comprising students and alumni from Multimedia University; Hybrid Mantra, who are in the midst of recording their first single; and gurushetra Cryptic, who uses various Indian music genres into their tunes. The band is led by Astro’s
winner Michael rao. Most of the bands will be belting out their own compositions.
Tickets are priced at RM50 and can be purchased at the door or by calling 012-671 3804. For more information, check out facebook.com/ theacousticseries.
