THE School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) at NTU (Nanyang Technological University) offers research programmes in the following disciplines – Chinese, Economics, English Literature, History, Linguistics and Multilingual Studies, Philosophy, Public Policy and Administration, Psychology and Sociology.

Key aspects of graduate studies in HSS include:

The research programme can be pursued on a full-time or parttime basis.
Full-time candidates with good results may be offered research scholarships.
Located in multilingual Singapore, the language of instruction is primarily in English.
In the Division of Chinese, the language of instruction and research may be either Chinese or English.
Master of Arts in Contemporary China
The MACC programme offered by NTU is specifically designed for professionals seeking an empirically grounded and theoretically informed understanding about various aspects of contemporary China.
Relying upon NTU’s tradition of China studies and its unique bilingual and multi-cultural learning environment, the MACC programme will enable students to study China and acquire a bi-cultural competence in the most effective and academically solid way in and out of the classroom.
It is the goal of the MACC programme that graduates develop expertise in China’s economic, political, and/or social and cultural development and thereby contribute to well-informed policymaking in public and private sectors, in-depth reports in the media, competent teaching and welldeveloped curriculum in education, and advancement in China-related affairs in various professions.
Master of Science in Applied Economics
The Master of Science in Applied Economics is a coursework-based programme at NTU.
It aims to train graduates to be capable of conducting high-level econometric research, which is useful for policy assessment in the public sector and evaluation of financial market changes in the financial sector.
Specifically, the programme specialises in equipping candidates with the necessary skills to excel in economic policy analysis by utilising techniques such as econometrics, financial applied econometrics, cost benefit analysis, project evaluation and financial modelling.
Such skills are useful for economic analysis of social policy, investment and portfolio management.
