Although they do not often get involved with patients, medical laboratory technologists play a crucial role in the process of providing personal care. They are responsible for identifying and treating illness.
Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DTMP) is designed to make room for students who want to venture into a career in medical centres, clinics, research and public health laboratories.
MLT tasks include both theory and practical exposure. The programme is a comprehensive educational experience with training and education at all levels of laboratory medicine, including Hematology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Transfusion Medicine, Cytology, Histo Technology and Chemical Pathology.
The three-year programme aims to produce medical laboratory technologists competent in line with the mission to produce graduates who are capable and meet the human resource needs of the country.
Medical laboratory technologists use their knowledge to perform tests that help physicians diagnose, monitor and treat disease, identify the source of infection, chemical analysis, and they can determine the patient’s blood type and ready for transfusion.
Medical laboratory technologists provide numerous diagnostic and therapeutic information which is invaluable to the health care team. Through this programme, students will build soft skills and critical thinking required for a successful medical laboratory technologist.
