MITSUBISHI Motors Malaysia (MMM) has launched its locally assembled 2014 ASX mid-sized sports utility vehicle which is some RM25,000 cheaper than earlier fully imported model.

The front-wheel drive ASX which is assembled in the Tan Chong Motor Assemblies Sdn Bhd (TCMA) plant in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, costs RM114,269 onthe-road without insurance.

Also available is an all-wheel drive (4WD) variant which costs RM128,879.

Both are powered by a 2.0-litre MIVEC engine with 150PS and 197Nm of torque mated to an INVECS-III continuously variable transmission with Sports Mode.

The ASX comes with three airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, leather seats, automatic lights and wipers, front and rear parking sensors with reverse camera, GPS navigation and auto air-con- ditioning which are standard.

The 4WD variant gets additional items such a panoramic roof, paddle shifters, push start button, traction control, active stability control and hill start assist.

Available in four colours of Black Mica, Titanium Grey, Cool Silver and Solid White, the ASX is offered with a five-year unlimited warranty.

“This is a milestone moment for Mitsubishi in Malaysia. Set up in 2005, we have grown from strength-to-strength through the years with more than 70,000 Mitsubishi cars on the road, ” said MMM chief executive officer Tetsuya Oda.

The move to locally assemble the vehicle is in line with Mitsubishi Motors Corp’s (MMC) strategy to strengthen its base in the Asean region and improve the brand image in emerging markets.

Also present during the rollout were MMC senior executive officer Morikazu Chokki, Mitsubishi Corp executive vice-president Kozo Shiraji and TCMA deputy managing director Datuk Rosie Tan. —
