ATC marks students’ achievement
JAN 15 was a day to remember for Advance Tertiary College’s (ATC) graduating class of 2013 as they celebrated their academic success at the 24th Annual Grand Convocation Ceremony that was held at the Plenary Hall of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Graduates from the University of London, Bachelor of Laws (LLB), the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) and School of Business and Management received their scrolls in a ceremony steeped in tradition and grandeur befitting an institution of ATC’s esteem.
The event saw a large attendance by a veritable who’s who of the Malaysian legal fraternity as senior members of the bar and bench were in attendance.
The guest of honour at the event was the Chief Justice of Malaysia Tun Arifin Zakaria who gave the convocation address and also presented the scrolls to the LLB graduates.
Also present at the event was the University of London pro vice-chancellor (international) and chief executive of the international programme Dr Mary Stiasny. Her presence was a testament to the close ties ATC has with the University of London. President of the Malaysian Bar Christopher Leong was also on hand to present some awards.
The Republic of Kenya Deputy President’s wife Rachel Ruto received several scholarships created for outstanding young people from Kenya to pursue their studies in law or business at ATC.
ATC Principal and Deputy CEO Dr Danny Choong in his speech told the audience of proud parents and family members about ATC’s success throughout the year.
He highlighted the fact that three students of ATC across its four campuses achieved first class honours degrees.
He also mentioned 33 students who achieved Second Class (Upper) Honours degrees and the various academic awards obtained by ATC students from the University of London and the college’s achievements in the 8th Lawasia moot competition and the International Humanitarian Law moot competitions and the outstanding achievements by the CLP students in 2013.
Daniel Chua Wei Chuen was named the best student of the University of London LLB graduating class, winning the Tuanku Jaafar Challenge Trophy. Mary Phoon emerged the best student from the CLP class of 2013.
This convocation also saw the launching of the ATC Outstanding Alumni Award to be presented yearly to former students of ATC who have achieved great things after graduation. This year, four of these awards were presented.
“The success of our students on display here tonight is a testament to the dedication and hard work put in by the faculty at ATC,” said Dr Choong.
ATC is offering several rebates and scholarship schemes to students who are interested in joining it for the A-Levels and Business Courses.
