Legendary American pop star Lionel Richie promises to make it three times the fun with a concert return at the Arena of Stars in Genting, Pahang on April 13. The 64-year-old, who is a five time Grammy winner, is a big favourite among local fans. his upcoming All The Hits All Night Long Live in Malaysia 2014 show promises to be a bumper one with a career-spanning setlist at the 5,000-capacity venue.
With 100 million records sold in his 45-year-old career, Richie isn’t short of fans in these parts. The music superstar is known for his solo career hits and as a member of the Commodores. Collectively he has written and recorded chart-topping hits including Hello, Say You Say Me, Stuck On You, Easy, All Night Long and Endless Love.
Starting out in small town Tuskegee, Alabama, Richie rose through the ranks and became one of the most influential names in pop music. Originally a Motown label staple, Richie was singer, songwriter and frontman of the legendary band The Commodores, with funk hits including Brick House, Too Hot To Trot and Machine Gun.
Let’s not forget the man’s tender touch. Richie also wrote classic ballads while in The Commodores, including Easy, Sail On and Three Times A Lady.
An Oscar and Golden Globe winner, Richie went solo in 1982 and dominated the decade with hits like Truly, You Are, Say You Say Me, Ballerina Girl, Running With The Night and Dancing On The Ceiling. his last album, Tuskegee (2012), featured duets with country superstars like Tim McGraw, Willie nelson, Blake Shelton and Shania Twain.
To underline his contemporary credentials, Richie’s Tuskegee went to no. 1 on the Billboard chart, and sold more than one million copies.
