Effective treatment of warts

-

WHEN we visit a nail salon or a public pool, we are exposing ourselves to germs that could lead to skin infection.

Do you find that your hands, feet, knees or elbows have a rough, “cauliflower-like mushroom” texture? These cauliflower-like mushrooms are identified as warts or verrcuas. Warts or verrucas are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV) through contact, including transmission from person to person or among their own.

Is a wart identical to a corn?

A wart is a viral infection by HPV that causes the thickening of the skin and enlarging of blood vessels under the skin.

A corn is the hardened part of skin due to physical pressure which is not contagious.

People may mistakenly think their wart is a corn. Do not treat the wart using corn removal plaster, as this will easily expose the virus in the wart to other healthy parts of the skin and create more warts.

HPV is contagious and usually enters the body from the area of broken skin. It might last for several years and recur.

Where does the wart come from?

Warm and high humidity surroundings are ideal for the proliferation of HPV. As a tropical country with high humidity, Malaysia has a high prevalence for infectious skin diseases, including HPV. Warts usually start from public areas.

Since hygienic conditions at public areas are unpredictable, be cautious when you are in a public toilet, beachor swimming pool. Do not bare your feet in public areas and keep wounds covered at all times. Avoid sharing personal toiletry.

Treatment for warts

As a wart is contagious, do not squeeze or scratch it. It is advisable to get rid of it as soon as possible to prevent the spreading of the virus to others around you.

Consult your doctor on the treatment of the wart, or to make it simple, use a medical device called Wartner.

Wartner is designed based on the cryotherapy method used by doctors to freeze the wart to the core in one treatment. With its -57°C, it causes a less painful sensation during the treatment compared to liquid nitrogen, and yet cures the wart effectively with just 20 seconds of application. The wart will drop off after 10 to 14 days.
