Remedy for nail infection

-

FUNGAL nail infection, also known as Onychomycosis, is a type of infection caused by fungus.

Fungal nail infection is more common in toenails than fingernails. Depending on the severity, the nail structure could be damaged, including the nail matrix, nail bed and the nail plate.

Fungal nail infection normally starts from the edge of the nail. The infected nail usually becomes discoloured, brittle and odorous. In severe cases, the nail may thicken and separate from the nail bed.

Besides being an unsightly problem, which causes others to view those with nail fungus as unhygienic and avoid them, fungal nail infection could cause discomfort when wearing shoes and pain when walking.

Fungal nail infection is mainly caused by three types of fungi – dermatophytes (most common), yeasts and moulds.

Fungus thrives in warm and humid environments. It enters the skin through the superficial layers and causes infections to the skin and nails.

Fungal nail infection is contagious. If it is left untreated, the infection will spread to other healthy nails.

Since fungus thrives in warm and humid conditions, public showers and swimming pools are hotbeds for transmission, which may occur through contact with the floor, sharing of nail files or direct contact with the infected nails.

Therefore, fungal nail infection requires immediate treatment once it is diagnosed.

There are two types of medical treatment for fungal nail infection – topical antifungal lacquer and oral medications (under doctor’s prescription).

Loceryl is a topical anti-fungal nail lacquer that is able to penetrate the nail to get to the site of infection and eradicate fungus. Loceryl is clinically tested to be beneficial in treating fungal nail infection and is easy to use. It only needs to be applied to the infected nail once a week. The antifungal action will last for seven days.

Loceryl has minimal side effects, does not affect liver function and has a good safety profile. Therefore, Loceryl does not need a doctor’s prescription.

Loceryl contains active ingredient called amorolfine, which is clinically tested to kill fungus for visibly healthy nails, penetrate the nail and protect against spreading.

The antifungal effect is sustained for a minimum of seven days unlike other brands, which require application one to two times daily.

For complete recovery, treatment with Loceryl should be continued without interruption until the nail is regenerated and the affected areas are finally cured.

Duration of treatment depends on the growth rate of the nail – normally six months for fingernail and nine to 12 months for toenail.

Every box of Loceryl contains a spatula, antiseptic cotton pads and disposable nail files.

File the affected area of the nail using a nail file. Clean the surface of the nail with an antiseptic pad. Using the spatula, apply Loceryl over the surface of the infected nail. Clean the spatula (do not reuse the antiseptic pad).

One bottle of Loceryl (2.5ml) can last more than six months, depending on the number of infected nails.

Call the Loceryl careline at 03-7955 1568 for a free information leaflet and support.

Loceryl is available at all leading pharmacies.
