Glimpse of a world-class campus
IN anticipation of Epsom College’s Malaysia campus inaugural student intake in September, the prestigious co-educational boarding school for three to 18-year-olds recently opened its doors for an exclusive glimpse of its state-of-the-art campus facilities.
Strategically located in Bandar Enstek, an hour from Kuala Lumpur, the 50-acre (20.2ha) development is Epsom’s first overseas campus. Steeped in 150 years of British heritage, it will offer students a first-class British education experience. Following the Cambridge International Examination (CIE) syllabus, Epsom College in Malaysia aims to mirror the academic excellence of Epsom College in the United Kingdom which has consistently achieved 84% of A-Levels grades at A*, A or B grade.
Tan Sri Dr Tony Fernandes, Chairman of Governors; Martin George, Headmaster; Mike Oliver, Head of Senior School and Jane Smith, Head of Prep School of Epsom College in Malaysia, guided members of the media from various regions of Asia on an exclusive campus tour.
The guided tour commenced at the administration block, which offered a welcoming reception to receive both parents and visitors. From there, the tour party visited the student classrooms, each built to accommodate 24 pupils in senior school and 16 in prep school.
At the college library, dedicated facilities for class teaching, group study and individual research offer a space conducive for learning. “The college has allocated RM1mil for books and digital resources for next year. Combined with Wi-Fi services, the college will provide the perfect working and research environment for our students,” says George.
The tour continued with a visit to the boarding houses. Epsom College UK has been committed to providing boarding school education since it was founded in 1855. This renowned close-knit house system has become one of the contributing reasons parents choose Epsom College for their children’s education.
Epsom College in Malaysia is committed to promoting an inclusive, family-oriented and supportive boarding culture nurtured by dedicated UK boarding house staff 24 hours a day.
The team of housemasters and housemistresses live alongside the students and are responsible for their welfare and progress at Epsom, be it academic, co-curricular, social or personal. This ensures that students receive the guidance and support they need in a safe and supportive environment.
Epsom College in Malaysia will stress academic excellence and a holistic co-curriculum to maximise students’ full potential. Students get to take subjects such as arts, music, dance, theatre and an extensive number of sports activities, which will be accommodated by Epsom’s excellent sporting facilities, including specialist sports fields, badminton and basketball courts and a fitness centre.
Guests were also shown the art and design facilities which include a stunning 600-seat theatre, recital hall, dance studio, music rehearsal suites, ensemble rooms and a specialist art and design technology centre.
The tour ended at the dining hall, which will offer local, regional and international meals freshly prepared on campus and designed by nutritionist to ensure a balanced diet.
“I am very excited to be here today, Epsom College in Malaysia is everything I imagined and so much more. Not only do we have world-class facilities for the students, I am elated to have Martin George heading the college with the support of a first-class teaching faculty and management team,” shares Fernandes.
