BERJAYA University College of Hospitality (BERJAYA UCH) and the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise are collaborating on several cooking demonstrations using exceptional ingredients from New Zealand such as King Salmon, New Zealand lamb and gourmet cheese to celebrate the third annual New Zealand Week in Malaysia.

The cooking demonstrations, scheduled for March 15, are open to the public and marketed through Groupon. They consist of a two-hour hot cooking demonstration and a two-hour baking demonstration conducted by award-winning chef lecturers of BERJAYA UCH.

Participants get the opportunity to learn various cooking and baking techniques while sampling handmade treats of baked cheesecake, mini seafood pie and homemade sausages.

Participants will also get a complimentary New Zealandthemed shopping bag.

A separate culinary workshop is scheduled for March 18 for food service professionals. As part of the collaboration,

winner Nadia Lim, who is a dietician by profession, will conduct a tour of the city campus on March 24 to view students’ handiwork as well as share her experiences in the culinary industry.

Her multi-cultural heritage, having a Kiwi mother and a Malaysian Chinese father, has helped broaden her interests and food knowledge. Despite having written and

as well as developing a home delivery business “My Food Bag”, Lim’s main focus remains in teaching the fundamentals of healthy eating.

BERJAYA UCH chief operating officer Mae Ho said, “We are honoured to be chosen as the partner for the New Zealand Exceptional Ingredients Showcase. Our students enjoy high levels of engagement through meeting professionals like Nadia.

“The application of theory in a practical setting otherwise known as the BERJAYA Immersion Methodology offers an alternative approach to education.

“It has taken a lot of partners to come together and make this work. Their support and the support from our industry affiliations, contribute to our students achieving their full potential.”

New Zealand Trade Commissioner to Malaysia Matt Ritchie said: “It’s great to see both chefs and consumers enjoying nutritious and delicious New Zealand ingredients.

“New Zealand’s pristine environment and dedication to sustainable harvesting ensures that consumers are guaranteed a product that not only reflects its environment, but is born of a dedication to protecting it.”
