Engineered for success in Germany
RIVE. Passion. Motivation. Determination. These are the keys that have propelled all 60 graduates to excel in their German A-Level Preparatory Program (GAPP) at the German- Malaysian Institute (GMI).
They had every reason to rejoice during the GAPP Graduation Day recently. Held at the GMI Dewan Gemilang Mercu Idaman on Feb 21, Frau Carmen Omlor, representative of the Malaysian German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, graced the event by presenting the certificates to the graduates.
GMI managing director Yusoff Md Sahir gave an inspiring speech and told the graduates to move forward and make their parents and nation proud when they continue their studies in Germany.
Thirteen students achieved straight As with four of them receiving the Outstanding Award – the highest achievement in the 2013 Cambridge International Examination – for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
The Most Outstanding Student Award went to Sayyid Abdul Halim Syed Omar who scored straight As in the Cambridge A-Level Examination in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and German Language.
The youngest of 11 siblings, this soft-spoken lad hopes to pursue Automotive Engineering in Germany this October.
Another exceptional graduate was Ooi Win Shen, who not only garnered 3As in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. He also received the Special Award for being Top in the World for AS Mathematics in the June Cambridge A-Level Exam last year.
These graduates will be heading to Germany to continue with intensive German language classes at various language centres. They will later pursue engineering courses at the universities of applied science in the states of Bavaria, Baden-Wuttermberg, Hessen, North-Rhein Wesphalia and Saxony.
Some of the major universities in Germany that the senior students enrolled in include Hochschule Esslingen in BadenWuttermberg, Georg-SimonOhm University of Applied Sciences, Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt and the University of Applied Science Regensburg, Hochschule Coburg all in the State of Bavaria.
Students will choose their universities based on their area of specialisation in engineering. They hope to become competent and practical engineers, proudly “Made in Germany” and who will go on to serve the nation with their knowledge.
