Graduate with more than a degree
cHOOSING to study at APU means that you will graduate with more than a degree. You will be ready to progress in the profession of your choice and take on the challenges of your chosen career. The APU Foundation (Pre-University) programme is designed to help those with SPM, O-Levels or similar qualifications to develop the skills and knowledge to progress to the degree level.
The APU Foundation programme offers a common first semester, enabling you the option and flexibility to explore your interests and thereafter select the routes that may lead to either the IT, Business, Accounting or Engineering degrees. Upon choosing the routes (Technology, Business or or Engineering), you will be introduced to fundamental modules that prepare you to join the APU degree programmes.
A wide selection of Bachelor’s honours degrees are offered through the School of Computing & Technology, the School of Business and Management, School of Accounting, Finance & Quantitative studies and the School of Engineering.
Students in the APU Foundation Programme learn within a globalised environment together with peers from more 100 countries.
Using English as the medium of instruction, students are immersed in a multi-cultural interaction and discourse. This way, international understanding and respect are promoted within the context of formal learning.
The teaching style in the APU Foundation programme is designed to nurture students personally and professionally to achieve the standards expected in the degree programme.
Lessons incorporate activities that build confidence, such as public speaking and presentations during tutorials; enhance personal skills and team-building, such as group activities, mini-projects and debates; and reflective thinking, such as Q&A, lesson feedback and learning portfolio.
The APU School of Foundation Studies provides a cohesive support system consisting of Programme Leader and Academic Administrators to assist on academic matters, a Personal Counsellor who is available to assist in non-academic matters and Student Ambassadors who will provide assistance as peers, being themselves registered APU students.
Upon completion of the APU Foundation Programme, students may pursue one of several degree programmes at APU or apply to transfer to partner universities overseas.
APU offers Dual Degree Programmes through a unique collaborative partnership with Staffordshire University, Britain. Staffordshire accredits undergraduate programmes that are designed and delivered by APU. On completion of the programme, students will be awarded two undergraduate degree certificates and transcripts – one from APU and one from Staffordshire University.
The programme provides students with enhanced opportunities for further study and career development, especially since both degrees are earned from reputable and quality institutions from two different countries. The most obvious benefit of the partnership is the opportunity for students to gain degrees from Malaysian and British higher education institutions that are recognised locally and internationally.
APU’s unique practice with “professional dress code” is perhaps one of the reasons the students appear confident and comfortable in a corporate setting.
Professional behaviour is inculcated, with no exception to APU Foundation students. While many were initially uncomfortable dressed in “office wear”, many graduates have credited the dress code to the discipline they have as employees or business owners.
APU Foundation students dress in formal wear for classes. By this they act the part as professional and well-groomed learners.
Apart from academic pursuits, APU Foundation students are encouraged to participate in clubs, societies and special-interest-groups (SIGs) on campus.
The activities range from sports competitions, charity bazaars, cultural events, homestays and community engagement to business ideas, software design and development, as well as building robots or energy efficient vehicles.
Through their participation in clubs and society activities, APU Foundation students develop interpersonal and leadership skills.
Those interested to have “work” experience may apply for part-time job on campus after completing one full semester of study.
Work opportunities for students include as library assistant, IT labs technical assistant, programmer, multimedia developer and Student Ambassadors, which give students invaluable experience outside the classrooms, apart from earning some extra pocket money.
Students seeking a flexible programme, as well as personal and professional development within an international, professional and yet fun-loving environment are encouraged to enrol in the APU Pre-university Foundation studies programme. For more information, log on to
