Invest time in English proficiency
tHE SPM results will be released soon and many of you, along with STPM and UEC graduates, will be seriously considering tertiary education.
Several institutions have intakes as early as May, with many more accepting applications for the September intake.
Very often students are spoilt for choice and making the right decision can be daunting.
The foundation to any successful education pathway lies in the student’s proficiency in the English language. This is a crucial prerequisite that allows students to communicate effectively when they have to give presentations, write essays and reports at the tertiary level.
The English language is also the global lingua franca of universities and colleges and is essential in order for students to engage actively and effectively in all facets of their academic life – whether it is on a student exchange programme, applying for a summer job or composing a research report.
After university, a proper command of the English language is even more essential for one to be successful in vying for highly sought-after jobs or steering global businesses.
ELS Language Centres, a specialised English language training provider for over 50 years, has trained more than a million students globally. In Malaysia, ELS offers two programmes that are ideal for university and collegebound students.
Featuring 10 levels, from beginner to advanced, the full-time Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) and the part-time Semi-Intensive English Programme (SIEP) help students to improve their English language ability quickly and effectively.
Within one month of study (which equates to one level), students will see significant improvement in their proficiency and they can choose to continue through the ELS levels while waiting to enrol into a university.
Both programmes feature engaging and interactive lessons taught by qualified and experienced English language instructors from Britain, the United States, Canada and Malaysia.
Students get the opportunity to enhance their language ability through an integrated learning approach that incorporates the major skills – reading, writing, listening, speaking and vocabulary and grammar practice.
ELS programmes and levels are recognised by more than 650 universities around the world for the purpose of admission. ELS level 109 (the highest CIEP level) graduates can use this achievement as proof of English language proficiency for admission into ELS partner institutions.
All ELS Centres provide free university counselling to the public for entry into any of its 650-plus partner institutions in the United States, Canada, Australia and Malaysia. This is a service available to anyone who visits the ELS centre – and appointments can be made by calling the ELS Centre of their choice.
Scholarships to ELS and university partners are also available and interested students are encouraged to visit any ELS Centre.
