iT is a double joy for KBU International College after receiving an invitation to form as a University College from the Education Ministry. The invite is timely with the construction of the college’s new wing. Upon confirmation, the college will be known as First City University College.

“We are in the midst of filing the application for University College status. Hopefully, we will be known as First City University College by this year,” said new principal Dr Chee Choong Kooi (

He said the new campus, which is expected to be completed by 2016, will be equipped with state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities, sports and recreational amenities and well-furnished hostel rooms.

“With that, we would like to take KBU to a new level by establishing the college as a premier teaching and research institution in the region,” said Dr Chee.

The college currently conducts nine franchised 3+0 programme of its partners – Anglia Ruskin University, Nottingham Trent University and Sheffield Hallam University – in the fields of design, engineering, computing/ICT/software engineering, business management, accounting and finance.

The outstanding achievements by KBU graduates in the corporate sector symbolises the college’s commitment in establishing strong ties with well-known organisations and professional bodies.

“At KBU, we recognise that students’ employability upon graduation is one of the requirements parents look out for. As such, KBU maintains strong ties with industry leaders such as KPMG, IBM, Intel and many other top organisations,” said Dr Chee.

He added that this has created an edge for students to be absorbed into the corporate world even before graduation.

KBU offers scholarships to students who excel in SPM and STPM. Scholarships and fee waivers are also offered to leaders and top office bearers of school uniformed bodies. Students who are active and have performed well in sports would also be able to apply for KBU’s Sports Scholarship.

The new addition to the scholarship list would be Chinese Independent High School Principal Scholarship 2014, which is dedicated to the current Senior Middle Three (SM3) students who have excelled in the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).

Students and parents are welcome to visit the campus on March 29 and 30 during KBU’s Open Day.
