Offering biology with psychology
SUNWAY University is currently the only institution of higher learning in Malaysia offering the unique BSc (Hons) Biology with Psychology, a programme that prepares students for further studies and a long-term career in the areas of biomedical sciences, medicine, pharmacy and neuroscience.
The programme aims to equip students with dual expertise in the fields of biology and psychology, providing in-depth knowledge on the biological basis of human behaviours.
It allows students to specialise in the field of neuroscience where opportunities include the development of pharmaceutical drugs and medical devices related to brain health and its functions.
The main part of this three-year degree programme is under the Department of Biological Sciences, which covers 75% while the Department of Psychology covers the other 25%.
This unique programme was developed by Sunway University together with Lancaster University, Britain, and the curriculum is validated by the renowned British institution, thus ensuring the quality of academic delivery and research output.
Upon completion of the programme, graduates receive dual certificates, one each from Sunway University and Lancaster University.
Lancaster University, founded in 1964, is one of Britain’s best research and teaching universities. It is ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world and is consistently highly ranked in both international and British Higher Education league tables.

The research-driven academic team comprises members from various scientific backgrounds and training and are respected authorities in the international scientific community in their fields of interests, which include medical microbiology, virology, toxicological sciences, human physiology, genetics, molecular and cell biology, genomics and proteomics and psychology.
Their current research works are funded by both internal and external grants and ongoing collaborations include those with international universities such as Swinburne University of Technology (Australia), Harvard Schools of Medicine and Public Health (USA), and Yale University School of Medicine (US).
The state-of-the-art facilities on campus provide students with a conducive, dynamic and interactive learning environment.
Practical classes are conducted in wellequipped Biological Science Laboratories and with the new academic block due to be opened at the end of this year, the life sciences research facilities will expand to specialised laboratories for Molecular and Cell Biology, Microbiology, Virology and Tissue Culture, and Physiology and Toxicology.
Together with classes and lab work, students get to collaborate and experience internship opportunities with the Brain Research Institute at Monash University Sunway campus (BRIMS).
Also as part of the curriculum are educational research trips to renowned laboratories and a final-year research project component, which allows students to translate theoretical knowledge into possible scientific breakthroughs.
The Bachelor of Science (Hons) Biology with Psychology programme at Sunway is under the Faculty of Science and Technology, which has developed a reputation for excellence in offering an avenue for science and technology development, unique specialisations in Biological Sciences, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Nursing and Psychology that keep students in the forefront of industry demand.
