Scholarships worth RM138,000 were presented to the Yayasan Tuanku Syed Putra chairman, Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, by Smart Reader Worldwide chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Richard Ong.

Also present were Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, Perlis state legal adviser Wan Jeffry Kassim, Perlis executive council member Ahmad Bakri Ali, Museums Malaysia director-general Datuk Ibrahim Ismail and Smart Reader Worldwide group executive director Datin Seri Dr K.H. Wang.

More than 200 guests, comprising officials of state government authorities, representatives of Yayasan Tuanku Syed Putra, the management of Smart Reader Worldwide, Smart Reader Kids teachers and children attended as well.

During the event, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin expressed his concern on the importance of providing a comprehensive early childhood education.

He also urged early childhood education operators to emphasise positive learning experiences.

The National One Child One Hope Education Scholarship Programme was established in line with Smart Reader Worldwide’s and Association of Professional Early Childhood Providers (APECP) Malaysia’s corporate social responsibility initiative to provide quality early childhood education to less fortunate children while they are still in their formative years.

Founded in December 2007, APECP provides a platform to share ideas, innovation and new research in Early Childhood Education. Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen currently serves as its royal patron.

In Perlis, this is the sixth year that the scholarships are offered to less fortunate children. This year, this scholarship will enable 25 less fortunate children to pursue a high-quality pre-school education.

These children will receive a full year’s study at Smart Reader Kids Taman Sri Bahagia, Kangar, Perlis or Smart Reader Kids Jalan ArauKodiang, Arau, Perlis.

Compared to the previous years, the scholarships are now extended to children taking the Smart Tadris programme as well. Currently, there are more than 100 Smart Reader Kids Islamic centres nationwide offering the Smart Tadris programme.

Since its inception in 2009, the National One Child One Hope Education Scholarship Programme has enabled more than 300 less fortunate children to experience quality early childhood education.
