A leisurely walk around Macau

-

THE MACAU Government Tourist Office (MGTO) unveiled its first four walking tour routes under the theme “Step Out, Experience Macau’s Communities” on Sept 27 last year.

MGTO hopes to encourage visitors to explore the lesser-known quarters in Macau.

The new routes are expected to divert visitors off the beaten tourist track to alleviate the burden and boost community tourism. The office introduced four walking tour routes on Oct 1 (the first stage) as a guide to a leisurely stroll around town. Here visitors can explore different areas in Macau for a fascinating interactive experience with local traditions. The four walking tour routes are: > A Tour of Historical Trails, setting off from Avenida da Praia Grande to Pra de Ponte e Horta,

> A Tour of Nature and Creativity, from Kun Iam Temple to St Lazarus Church,

> A Tour of East Meets West, from Senado Square that ends at Maritime Museum, and

> A Tour of Arts and Culture, from Macau Fisherman’s Wharf to A-Ma Temple.

The text in the tour maps are available in traditional and simplified Chinese, English, Portuguese and more.

The office has also produced different videos of the four routes on MGTO’s website. The videos enable visitors to virtually experience the walking tours and enjoy the scenery along the routes at first glance.

In addition, MGTO has been inviting overseas travel agencies and media for successive familiarisation trips in Macau while encouraging travel consultants to consider adopting the walking routes in their itinerary planning.

MGTO will soon introduce smartphone applications for the walking routes as well.

Locals and visitors will be able to obtain the walking tour maps for free at MGTO’s Tourist Information counters. They can also download the maps or enjoy the videos of the routes on MGTO’s website at www.macautourism.gov.mo.

Visitors are invited to have snapshots of their photos taken with the dance group at the Macau booth. MGTO offers a free mobile app to help visitors “Experience Macau”. This easy-to-use app is available in traditional and simplified Chinese and English.
