ARE you interested in the performing arts? Do you have a flair for bringing words to life? If so, we have just the right platform for you to explore that budding passion.

Islands and Cities, a project led by renowned Singaporean actress and director Tan Kheng Hua, will see six young playwrights from Penang and Singapore chosen for a playwriting immersion workshop in conjunction with the George Town Festival 2014 in Penang.

All six writers will be actively working on their own play during the five-day workshop (June 5-10) and mentored by the award-winning Huzir Sulaiman. Their evolving drafts will then go through peer as well as professional review throughout the programme.

At the end of the workshop, all six of their 10-minute plays will then be performed in a public read by professional actors during the George Town Festival, directed by the distinguished Claire Wong.

To be part of the Islands and Cities immersion workshop, you have to be 1518 years old, and both born and currently living in Penang. Send your application to play@georgetownfestival.com with the following:

> A summary of previous theatre experience.

> A short piece on why you like to write.

> A short piece on the reason for your participating in “Islands and Cities: A Penang/Singapore Youth Immersion Playwriting Workshop”.

> An original creative writing piece (short story, play, screenplay, poem or lyrics) of up to 15 pages.
