Finding the right university

-

FOR Stefanie Ng, looking for a university to do her PhD was challenging. It was Asia e University’s (AeU) logo and tagline, its awards and the uniqueness of the AeU brand to offer lifelong learning, that caught her eye and ended her search.

She found the low admission fee, fee discounts, flexibility of payment and learning modes and AeU’s environment highly attractive.

Ng elected for a PhD (Business Administration). As a retiree, she enjoyed a 50% discount on the programme fees, in addition to the further discounts for early fee payment and student loyalty offered by AeU as incentives.

Being a retiree, pursuing a PhD was often questioned by people around her. She replied that learning is a lifelong pursuit and that the AeU brand particularly appealed to her.

Currently in her second year, the exposure to various research workshops, colloquia and clinics have given her the confidence to go through with her PhD programme. There are 16 research workshops and two research colloquia and clinics available during each semester to enhance students’ competency in using quantitative and qualitative research methods.

Interactions with the faculty members and thesis supervisors help maintain the welfare of doctoral candidates at all stages of their PhD journey. Ng is currently in her data collection stage, having gone through the proposal two months earlier.

“These two years at AeU have empowered me to re-define learning using the right combination of tools, materials, people and other resources,” says Ng.

A unique education provider

Within a span of seven years since its inception in April 2007 as an open and distance learning (ODL) university supported by 33 Asian countries under the auspices of Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), AeU has emerged as a powerful brand in the niche segment of postgraduate education within a fast growing higher education market in Asia.

Using an innovative dualmode system to deliver study programmes and resources, AeU also caters to international students seeking higher education under a reliable and flexible e-learning environment.

Adult learners who work can balance their work and study thanks to the flexibility, affordability and quality higher education that form the key unique features of AeU.

“In my two years of education at AeU, I gained a wealth of knowledge and skills in conducting research, data collection, data analysis and thesis writing. It is a journey of self-discovery and personal transformation,” says Ng.
