Forefront of design

WHEN speaking of Tag Heuer, one can’t help but to think of the brand’s technical know-how. As a manufacturer of truly marvellous timepieces, Tag Heuer has stayed ahead of the game with cutting-edge design.

You have the Formula 1 Calibre 6 Automatic, for instance. It really reflects Tag Heuer’s need for innovation, excellence, performance and prestige when it comes to watchmaking.

The watch was born from the partnerships with F1 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team and its World Champion Jenson Button; Audi Sport in the Le Mans 24 Hours and endurance races; and Automobile Club of Monaco for the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix.

Aside from being the first ever watch in its series to house the Calibre 6 Automatic movement, it also highlights its namesake theme with special “Formula 1” lettering at 12 o’clock and a fine-brushed, chequered screwed case back.

Another really good example of a Tag Heuer standout is the Carrera watch.

This chronograph, inspired by the legendary Carrera Panamericana Mexico road race, has stood the test of time since its release by Tag Heuer in 1963.

To this day, the watch has remained as an iconic favourite. Its foremost qualities – a wide-open, easy-to-read dial and shock-resistant, waterproof case – are still very much celebrated by watch collectors.

A tribute to motor racing and to modern design, the Carrera has perpetually reinvented itself over the years, reworking the codes that shaped its legend to create a future worthy of its past and present.

It is said to be one of the first sports chronograph specifically designed for professional drivers and sports car enthusiasts. As it is, Carrera watches also assert an elegant aesthetic appeal.

Each model combines modern and classic elements, along with resolutely sporty touches.

It draws upon the timeless codes of motor sports, such as the black and white of vintage dashboard counters or perforated leather driving gloves.

This year’s Carrera highlights are the Calibre 7 Twin-Time Automatic and 5 Day-Date Automatic. Both present slightly different key functionalities, but remain as beautiful timepieces all the same.

The former enables wearers to keep an eye on each time zone thanks to the twin-time function. With a 24-hour scale around the inner bezel ring of the dial, the watch indicates the second time zone via a central hand.

The later model is bound to appeal to people who truly value style. With the 5 Day-Date Automatic, refinement is taken to extremes with rose gold-plated hands, indexes, date window and logo – all delicately hand-fitted by artisans.
