Providing opportunities for skills development
THE College of Graduate Studies (COGS) at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten) was established in 1999, with the objective of coordinating all postgraduate programmes.
With the university’s vision of becoming a leading global university that shapes a sustainable future, COGS provides opportunities for graduates, professionals and the public to enhance their academic and professional skills via postgraduate studies.
The journey forward
COGS has developed a strategic plan addressing the concerns and issues brought by its stakeholders – Tenaga Nasional Berhad, the Ministry of Education (MOE), industries, students, professional bodies and funding and regulatory bodies.
COGS supports and aligns its strategic plan with that of Uniten’s WI5E strategic plan.
To realise its vision and mission, COGS defines and sets its direction for the future through:
Quality postgraduate programmes
Creating a niche in energy and sustainability
Becoming a top business school in Malaysia
Increasing graduates and postgraduate enrolments
Revitalising its current programmes
Below are some of the steps COGS will take towards achieving the outlined strategies:
Ensuring that all programmes are accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency and the MOE
Promoting COGS’ postgraduate programmes to ministries overseas
Facilitating student mobility between partner universities
Promoting Malaysian postgraduates to utilise MyMaster, MyPhD and MyPhD industry grants
Expanding the Graduate Business School and strengthening its networks between Malaysian universities
Maintaining its membership in the Malaysian Deans of Graduate School and Malaysian Deans of Graduate Business School Council
Organising annual programme reviews to ensure all programmes are up-to-date with the current trends
Improving online facilities to ensure excellent student service in the future
Uniten National Graduate Conference
Postgraduate studies require students to present their ideas and research findings in an effective way.
To facilitate this, the college annually organises the Uniten National Graduate Conference (Natgrad), previously known as Uniten SCORED.
This conference provides a platform for postgraduate students to present their research findings and exchange ideas on current research issues.
Graduate Business School
The Graduate Business School (GBS) was established by the university to manage business-related postgraduate programmes. The school is jointly managed by COGS and the College of Business and Accounting (COBA) with the aim of becoming one of the top business schools in Malaysia. GBS strives to improve the quality of its programmes by recruiting qualified and experienced academicians in the area of business and its related domains. GBS is currently headed by Prof Dr Zainal Ariffin Ahmad.
