Wonderful study opportunity

-

aN IMU biomedical science student, Lim Li Jin, chose to study the first one and a half years in the International Medical University (IMU) before transferring to one of its partner universities, University of Newcastle.

Li Jin relates the experience of studying in IMU and University of Newcastle in Australia.

“IMU has really trained and prepared me to be more mature and able to face the outside world and any challenges, and guided me to enjoy my stay in Australia. Being in IMU is like being in a big family.

“Even though I have been in Australia for some time, I still miss the time with all my course mates in IMU.

“As the only credit transfer student to University of Newcastle, it is not easy for me to maintain good grades in IMU and in Newcastle as well as the friendship and bond with everyone in the IMU class within that short duration.

“I’m glad to say that after one and a half years, I managed to bond with my current course mates.

“With a substantial number of modules studied per semester, IMU has trained me to have good time management to cope with so many subjects.

“Now that I am in Newcastle, I am able to balance my personal and study time. With the numerous practical sessions conducted in IMU, I picked up various skills that will be very useful for me in the future.

“As a credit transfer student from IMU, I am required to study some of the same subjects as in IMU. Even though these are the same subjects, the content is very different. Because of that, I am actually learning more things about that particular subject.

“One example is microbiology. IMU taught us about the different types of viruses and bacteria, whereas in Newcastle, microbiology is about the genetic material of the pathogen.”

Besides the University of Newcastle, biomedical science students at IMU can also choose to transfer to relevant programmes at University of Otago, New Zealand, University of Strathclyde, Scotland and St George’s University of London, England.

This proves that the curriculum of the biomedical science programme is developed to meet international standards.

Students also have the option of completing the entire biomedical science degree at IMU. Graduates can undertake postgraduate degrees in any related discipline.

Biomedical science students in IMU will have many hours of hands-on practical sessions where every student has the opportunity to hone his skills in the microbiology lab, pathology lab and such.

The biomedical science programme in IMU will also expose students to industrial attachments, giving them the opportunity to gain valuable industrial experience and required skills to be immediately ready for employment.

The next commencement date for this programme is in September. If you have pre-university qualifications and an interest in biomedical science, apply online now and join the university in your pursuit of a promising and rewarding career.

If you have just completed the SPM and do not have pre-university qualification, consider enrolling in the one-year IMU Foundation in Science, the preferred foundation and direct route for entry into any of the university’s local degree programmes.
