- By TEE LIN DEE

WHAT’S new on TV? What’s up with youths lately? What are they talking about? To get clued in on the latest issues surrounding the modern generation, tune in to RTM’s exciting Hello on Two (HOT).

After nine successful years, Malaysia’s hottest morning lifestyle talk show, HOT, was relaunched with a new look and concept aimed at the country’s more informed and discerning media-oriented TV audience.

“HOT used to be a morning show, but we have since discovered that we could reach a more effective audience in the afternoon,” says RTM Hello on Two producer Radzi Ruslan.

“As of April 2013, we have rebranded the programme and given it more exciting themes as well as collaborated with valueadding partners.

“The show is more youngish now and caters to anything youthrelated,” says the show’s producer, Zahirah Zainuddin.

“We also have more professionals in our audience now, as compared to before, which were mainly housewives.”

While the show retains its focus on featuring current hot topics and happenings, viewers can expect some pleasant changes in terms of the show’s concept and content – aimed at a TV audience who has higher expectations for content that is on-demand, richer and engaging.

The show has been moved from its morning slot of 7am-8.30am to 1pm-2pm.

HOT has collaborated with strong brands to ensure its content is top-notch. They include Google Malaysia and MyStarJob.

“We are in fact the first TV talk show to have a collaboration with Google Malaysia,” says morning talk show executive producer Noriani Md Idris.

“Popular brands are coming onboard, showing that they believe in our product and see the potential. We are also the only TV station to cover the entire Malaysia effectively, including Sabah and Sarawak.”

With a mix of existing and new comperes and a strong writing and production team, HOT will effectively capture a strong TV audience.

On the specific changes to the show, HOT has moved away from its traditional talk show format to include more “action”.

Rather than just keeping it in the studio, viewers can expect more live feeds, latest video footage, greater audience engagement and active usage of social media.

The show has been conceived based on what the viewers want and how to actively engage them on areas that matter to them.

It’ll be very current and on the ball. HOT will be your source to find out what’s hot and what’s not in the world today.

“We are very happy because we have managed to revamp HOT to be far more exciting compared to its previous format,” says Zahirah.

“Now, we have some permanent programmes on HOT, a testament to its popularity.”

As for the social media, HOT aims to leverage on the medium

Thursdays wrap up the week with a look at the latest movies, sport news, music charts and weekend activities.

In keeping with its new image and feel, the 60-minute talk show will feature fresh and favourite faces as hosts. Popular comperes Terrence Dass and Zamil Idris will be joined by the likes of Stephen Chiang and Annie Joseph.

“HOT unites the young people of Malaysia, regardless of race and religion,” says Noriani.

“We were heartened to see many positive messages on our social media during the recent MH17 tragedy. No doubt it was a terrible tragedy, we saw Malaysians coming together and reaching out to each other. That was truly encouraging.”
