Parisian debut
FASHION in Malaysia has come a long way. The inaugural Malaysia Fashion Week (MFW), is a collaborative effort between the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and fashion event organiser Stylo International.
The event made its debut in Paris, France at the World Fashion Week (WFW) as the “Next Fashion Destination” yesterday. There were more than 100 participating countries, and WFW served as a new global fashion platform that offered the opportunity to general consumers, press, media professionals and international buyers to connect.
There were also awards for international advocates of fashion whose work have impacted the industry on a global scale. Datuk Jimmy Choo was awarded the World Fashion Organisation’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
As an international event, the MFW 2014 will also bring together Malaysian and international fashion distributors to Kuala Lumpur from Oct 17-22 during a trade exhibition called Fashion, Art, Cosmetics, Interiors and Textile. This will be further supported by a series of fashion shows and gala events.
With support from the International Trade and Industry Ministry, MFW will mark the first dedicated trade fashion event organised by a government agency (MATRADE) working in partnership with the private sector and its multinational collaborators at an international level.
Furthermore, the partnership with Stylo International also sees the injection of the Mercedes-Benz Stylo Asia Fashion Week (MBSAFW), which will further boost MFW as well as give it additional mileage. The MBSAFW is a joint collaborative effort between Stylo International and luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz.
