Give your lovely locks a treat

- By EllEn WhytE

WHEN you’re having an indulgent weekend, give yourself a boost with a home hair treatment.

Avocado for conditioning. Take a ripe avocado, split it in half and put one part aside. Spoon the meat out of the other, and mash it up with a fork. Rub into your hair, cover with a showercap and prepare the other half of the fruit as a treat. For a very simple snack, drizzle with garlic butter.

Alternatively, mix with equal amounts of rock melon and prawns. Add a spoonful of thousand island dressing. By now the avocado should have soaked into your hair. Rinse thoroughly and style your hair as usual.

Honey is also a wonderful conditioner, softening hair and imparting lustre. The downside is that it’s very messy.

Choose a quality honey, wet your hair with warm water and rub in honey – a few spoonfuls should do it.

Leave for five minutes and then rinse out with warm water. Honey is not easy to wash out but it’s good stuff and the bonus is that it makes your skin feel soft too.

Coconut oil is excellent for taming unruly hair.

Easy to obtain, smooth and easier to wash out than avocado and honey, this is the choice for times when you want to treat your hair but not spend too much time on it. Simple, effective – and it smells yummy.
