Prepare for US tertiary education
APPLYING to US universities and colleges may seem confusing. Each university and college sets its own admission standards, so you must apply separately.
Even if you have one school that you prefer the most, it is advisable to apply to other schools too. Remember, you are competing with prospective students from all over the world for limited spaces.
Here are some steps to help with your application:
Write to several schools
Contact each school for an application form and more international student admission details. If you wish to apply for a graduate (postgraduate) programme, be sure to verify the admissions requirements with the specific graduate school
within the university.
Write an awesome essay
Step 1: Choose a great topic that has personal meaning for you and reveals something about your values or interests.
Step 2: Good writing takes time, so don’t rush. Pay special attention to the introduction to make sure you draw the reader’s attention.
Step 3: Leave enough time so you can stop for a few days and then come back to your essay with a fresh perspective.
Send application forms
US universities and colleges usually base admission decisions on a student’s academic record applicable to test scores such as TOEFL, SAT or ACT. For graduate schools, addi- tional exam scores such as the GRE or GMAT will be required.
Register for admissions tests
Students applying to universities and colleges in the US must take certain exams (SAT, SAT Subject Test, ACT, GMAT or GRE) that measure aptitude and achievement.
