Experience REAL studies
BROADENING the horizons of possibilities and learning” has always been the driving force behind REAL’s unique approach to education.
Communication is part of REAL Education Group’s “5C” core values, with Character, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Creativity being the other four.
The group seeks to motivate youths to communicate confidently and effectively by mastering language.
Communication involves listening, speaking, articulating ideas and writing for the purpose of understanding and being understood.
A recent REAL Education Group event that propagated this concept is the inaugural “Applied English and Internship Programme” held in January.
It saw a total of 33 undergraduate students from South Korea participating in a month-long course at REAL Schools campuses in Cheras and Shah Alam, as well as REAL Kids kindergarten in Taman Cuepacs, Cheras.
The South Korean students, who majored in Education and Early Childhood Education at various South Korean universities, embarked on a four-week internship course designed by REAL for those wishing to enhance their English language skills.
The objectives of the programme included clear and effective usage of the language within a nurturing environment at both the communicative and written levels.
The students also had to interact with REAL staff members, parents and the community, plan daily and weekly activities, and prepare written plans and reports.
This served as a perfect way to highlight the importance of having experienced teachers to be their mentors at REAL Schools.
Besides the many interactive and interesting student activities, the schools’ small class size provide the interns with the personal attention they need to learn and to feel at home.
REAL Schools’ comprehensive English language programme introduces students to learning features ranging from public speaking to composition writing.
Although the syllabus for class lessons are structured and course book-related, teachers at REAL also often use other innovative sources to learn English.
This distinct approach offers students something fresh and original to further complement the regular homework given.
It forms part of the quality lesson delivery and class management at REAL Schools, which the Korean undergrads observed and were exposed to throughout the duration of their stay.
At the culmination of the course, a “Graduation Party” was held at REAL Schools' Suria Campus in Cheras, where each intern received a Certificate of Completion, a Progress Report, and a Letter of Recommendation.
It was an educational, enriching and enjoyable experience for the group, who will return to South Korea with fond memories of their time in Malaysia while also having equipped themselves with better knowledge and skills of the English language and teaching as a whole.
Their growth and progress were evident, as testified by S.P. Lee, general manager of REAL Schools, Suria Campus, Cheras, who said she and her teachers were happy with the interns’ participation and attitude.
