CHOOSING to study at APU means that you get to graduate with more than a degree. You’ll be ready to progress in the career of your choice and take on the challenges that lie ahead.

The APU Foundation (PreUniversity) programme is designed to help those with SPM, O-Levels or similar qualifications to develop the skills and knowledge needed to progress to the first year of their degree.

The APU Foundation programme

The APU Foundation programme offers a common first semester, giving students the option to explore their interests during the first semester and then select the routes that may lead to their dream job through Accounting and Finance, Business and Management, Computing and Technology, Engineering, Design Innovation and Brand Management, Animation and Visual Effects, Creative Media Technology, International Studies and Sustainability or Journalism degrees.

Upon choosing the routes (Business and Finance, Computing and Technology, Engineering, Design, Journalism and Creative Media, and International Studies), students will then be introduced to fundamental modules that prepare them for the APU degree programmes.

A wide selection of Bachelors Honours degrees is offered through the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU), as well as the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT).

Students in the APU Foundation Programme learn within a globalised environment together with peers from more than 100 countries.

Using English as the international language, students are immersed in a multi-cultural discourse. This way, international understanding and respect are promoted within the context of formal learning.

The teaching style in the APU Foundation programme is designed to nurture students to achieve the standards expected in the degree programme. Lessons incorporate activities that build confidence, including public speaking and presentations during tutorials.

The APU School of Foundation Studies provides a cohesive support system consisting of, among others, Programme Leaders and Academic Administrators to assist in academic matters.

Personal Counsellors are available to assist in non-academic matters, while Student Ambassadors provide assistance as peers.

Upon completion of the APU Foundation Programme, students may pursue one of several degree programmes at APU or apply to transfer to partner

universities overseas.

APU dual degree programmes

APU offers dual Degree Programmes through a unique collaborative partnership with Staffordshire University in Britain, through which Staffordshire accredits undergraduate programmes that are designed and delivered by APU.

Upon completing the programme, students will be awarded two undergraduate degree certificates and transcripts – one from APU and one from Staffordshire University.

The obvious benefit of the partnership is the opportunity to gain degrees from Malaysian and British higher education institutions that are recognised locally and abroad.

Professional yet fun environment

APU’s unique practice of a “professional dress code” is perhaps one of the reasons students appear confident and comfortable in a corporate setting.

Professional behaviour is embedded early with no exception to APU Foundation students. While many are initially uncomfortable in “office wear”, many graduates have credited the dress code (among others) to the discipline they have as employees or business owners.

APU Foundation students dress in formal wear for classes, acting the part as professional and well-groomed learners.

Apart from academic pursuits, APU Foundation students are encouraged to actively participate in clubs, societies and Special Interest Groups on campus.

Activities range from sports competitions, charity bazaars, cultural events, homestays and community engagement to business ideas, software design and development, as well as building robots or energy-efficient vehicles.

Those interested in gaining “work” experience may apply for part-time jobs on campus after completing one full semester of study.

Work opportunities for students include being a library assistant, technical assistant in the IT labs, programmer, multimedia developer and Student Ambassador.

Students seeking a flexible programme, as well as personal and professional development, are encouraged to enrol in the APU Pre-university Foundation studies programme.
