MALAYSIA now needs over 60,000 engineers to service all sectors of rapid development. According to HELP College of Arts and Technology (HELP CAT) senior lecturer in engineering David Lee, who has wide industrial experience, over the last 50 years, no engineer in Malaysia has been jobless.

HELP CAT has a distinguished record of producing over 100 Engineering graduates with First Class Honours in partnership with Australian and UK universities, including 49 during 1996-2002 from the University of Adelaide, and 15 from the University of Hertfordshire in the last five years.

HELP CAT Centre for Engineering Programmes head Dr Than Cheok Fah commented, “We are just continuing HELP CAT’s excellent trend of producing capable and dynamic engineers who perform to the highest standards and expectations of the industry.

“HELP CAT has now increased its programme options and expanded its network of universities and pathways to provide various choice offerings for engineering degrees of unmatched value.”

HELP CAT offers engineering programmes at both diploma and degree level.

At the diploma level, HELP CAT offers the Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. For holders of SPM or O-Levels (or equivalent), these offer excellent value in terms of costs, time saving, quality of training and employment opportunities.

It takes only two and a half years to secure the HELP CAT Diploma in Engineering and another two years to a BEng degree in a wide choice of Australian and United Kingdom universities.

When studying in Australian or United Kingdom universities, students are able to hold part-time jobs for up to 20 hours per week. After getting an engineering degree in four and a half years, graduates from Australian universities are eligible to work two years in Australian organisations with attractive starting remunerations.

Another choice for students with SPM or O-Levels (or equivalent) is the one-year HELP CAT Foundation in Science, which will qualify them to enrol for the 3+0 Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) BEng (Hons) degrees in Mechanical Engineering or Electronic Engineering, which can be completed entirely at HELP CAT.

Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) in partnership with HELP CAT offers various 3+0 honours programmes.

Students will be taken on an all-expensepaid Unique Global Exposure visit to the ARU campus in Cambridge, Britain, in the third year.

They will attend seminars by ARU lecturers and examiners, engage in industrial immersion with ARU’s partners and forge networks and friendships with the local and international student fraternity.

The Engineering programmes (both diploma and ARU degree programmes) at HELP CAT are delivered by a team of highly qualified lecturers with wide industry experience.

They include two eminent lecturers with PhD degrees from Cambridge University – Prof Tan Ka Kheng, who also has a master’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and Dr Tan Hock Meng who obtained a First Class Honours degree in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College London. Both will guide and counsel ARU Engineering students on their trip to ARU’s campus.

Commenting on the ARU BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering programme, ARU Faculty of Science and Technology Engineering course group leader Dr Habtom Mebrahtu said, “Our course supports students by delivering the skills and knowledge they need to succeed by using advanced computer-based analysis and modelling tools.

“The lectures at HELP CAT are delivered by experts with proven industrial experience.”

ARU Industrial Electronics professor and Computing and Technology Department head, Prof Marcian Cirstea said, “A significant feature of the Electronic Engineering course is that it is geared towards forming practical and transferable skills, facilitating industrial application.

The course content is not only academically strong, but also of high relevance to small and medium enterprises and multinational companies such as ARM and Citrix."
