Stephanie Talbot, author of

says the beauty of a slogan T-shirt is its simplicity.

“There is something compelling about wearing words across your chest, because in effect you are broadcasting your personal thoughts, opinions and lifestyle choices,” says Talbot on blogsite, blog. bloomsburyvisualarts.com.

The rise of slogan T-shirts dates back to the 1960s in London with Disney designs (think: images of Disney characters like Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse) and were quickly snapped up.

The 1970s and 1980s saw a growing demand for adult slogan T-shirts which carry political comments, peace messages or punk-rock slogans.

Today, slogan T-shirts cater to a larger audience.

Some carry messages on current affairs; others sport witty comments or playful remarks.

Recently, we asked readers to design their own slogan T-shirt. Here are their drawings. Sarah Celina, six, writes: “I love slogan T-shirts, especially the colourful and witty ones. My slogan T-shirt is a sweet and simple declaration of love. It is such a blessing to be loved by family and friends.”
