Outstanding contribution to CSR
IN December 2014, BAC (Brickfields Asia College) was awarded the SME Recognition Award (SMERA) for Corporate Social Responsibility. This recognition was bestowed in honour of its reputation for developing sustainable educational programmes in line with its vision of “empowering Malaysians via education”.
This vision has resulted in the development of sustainable educational programmes such as EduNation – a web-based platform that provides free tuition for secondary school children in Malaysia.
BAC has spearheaded several education-based CSR initiatives dedicated to enhancing the livelihood of women, children, the underprivileged and disabled.
BAC chief operations officer Aria Singham who received the award on behalf of BAC, said the college was delighted to be the only tertiary educational institution to receive the SMERA 2014 for Social Responsibility Excellence.
“It’s fantastic to receive the award for Corporate Social Responsibility as we believe that education should be accessible to all and that it should be administered to serve the wider community.”
BAC’s CSR efforts include more than education-based CSR initiatives. All its CSR initiatives fall under the BAC Gives Back umbrella. BAC Gives Back is a charity-based community designed for the friends and extended family of Brickfields Asia College.
This charity-based community organises, supports and contributes to various causes and charitable organisations through numerous fundraising events and activities, giving volunteering opportunities to its students as well as anyone who is interested.
BAC believes in a holistic education, which can be seen as an equation with one part being charity, BAC Gives Back and the other part being academic excellence.
This part is reflected in its academic track record. Two BAC A-Level students received the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards for Best Student in the World for Law and Business in 2013.
Amanda Kong was awarded the Best Student in the World for Law while Lau Foong Yee was awarded the Best Student in the World for Business Studies. BAC was the only Malaysian institution with the highest number of “Top in the World Outstanding Cambridge A2 Learner Award” winners in 2013.
The CIE A-Level is the ideal pre-university programme for students who have yet to decide on a specific tertiary education path because it leads to a broad range of programmes. Students can select from a wide range of A-Level subjects BAC offers, which include Biology, Chemistry, Law, Economics, Accounting, English Literature and Mathematics.
Students looking forward to getting a head start in their careers will find the BAC A-Level Express Route the perfect option.
This specially designed 11-month programme gives BAC students an edge over the standard 18- or 24-month route. Coupled with BAC’s UK Transfer Degree Programme in Law or Business, students will be able to graduate up to two years ahead of their peers, making BAC the fastest and smartest way to over 70 UK Law and Business degrees.
Students can opt for the BAC Foundation in Arts Programme.
It has been designed and developed to allow students to proceed onto a wide range of undergraduate degrees and designed to provide a learning experience strongly focused on the development of academic skills and above all, fun.
The success of BAC students is attributed to its teaching faculty, which consists of highly qualified lecturers with significant teaching experience.
This faculty is complemented by the college’s state-of-the-art facilities with over RM100mil invested in the new Petaling Jaya campus, which include a comprehensive library and research centre, computer labs, moot court, the Rock Academy music school and the Monster Fit fitness centre. BAC also operates two luxurious but reasonably priced student accommodation centres for outstation students, with “The Mansion” being the latest addition.
To make tertiary education more accessible, the BAC Education Fund awards Merit Scholarships and Financial Aid Scholarships to students based on academic excellence and financial need. BAC has also collaborated with the Star, MAPCU and Sin Chew Education Funds to provide more options.
