Baby steps are key
KOLEJ Dika celebrated its sixth Graduation Ceremony on Dec 6 at Sirim Hall, Shah Alam. At each convocation, one graduate will be selected as the best student based on his or her academic performance and extra-curricular involvement.
The sixth convocation saw the Best Student Award going to Tang Ru Shi, who completed her Diploma in Early Childhood Education. She shares her positive learning experience at Kolej Dika:
“Kolej Dika is where I truly understood and learned about Early Childhood Education. When I told the others I was studying for a Diploma in Early Childhood Education, most responded: ‘ A kindergarten teacher? That kind of job is for aunties who have nothing to do’.
“At first I was embarrassed but now, I can proudly say this is a job that not everyone can manage.
“Early Childhood Educators are professionals. We invest so much in Early Childhood Education to achieve a goal – helping children to open the door of opportunity and providing them the skills they need to get ahead and chase their dreams.
“Early Childhood Education is not just about spoon-feeding children what they should learn. Mostly, children will act as active participants to construct their own knowledge through guiding and scaffolding by early childhood educators. Early Childhood Education is an important field with a wide range of knowledge.
“I am grateful that Kolej Dika provided me the opportunity for a practical session to gain experience. I would also like to acknowledge all the lecturers at Kolej Dika who are knowledgeable, patient and caring towards all students, teaching us life lessons that will benefit us the rest of our lives.
“Throughout these two years, I have learned a very important value in life – appreciation. Sometimes it is difficult to appreciate what you have in life because you might be looking at and longing for what you don’t have. I will always remind myself that though I may not have a lot, what I have is enough.
“I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to Kolej Dika where I found my goal in life – not to be just an ordinary kindergarten teacher but an excellent early childhood educator.”
Kolej Dika has been offering Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Diploma in Special Education (Early Years), modular programmes, in-house teachers training and parenting workshops since 2004.
