Strong foundation paves the way
UTAR Foundation programmes offer the shortest path for students to progress to undergraduate studies within a year.
The flexible course structure gives students up to two years to complete their Foundation studies.
UTAR Foundation programmes are offered by UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS). Students can progress to over 65 undergraduate programmes and over 30 postgraduate programmes in UTAR.
“UTAR’s Foundation programmes promote and prioritise the holistic development of students," said director of CFS Petaling Jaya Campus Yap Lay Min.
Director of CFS Perak Campus Pek Hoo Chun explained: “The qualified and committed teaching staff, accessible online learning and well-equipped facilities provide students with a conducive learning environment.”
UTAR Foundation programmes emphasise hands-on practices, presentation skills and English language proficiency to equip students with competency skills for their academic and professional endeavours.
UTAR Foundation in Arts student Hiew Mei Teng said: “The English classes taught me all aspects of communication, such as grammar, syntax and pronunciation.”
In line with its vision to become a premier research university, UTAR has invested in dedicated computer labs for Biology, Chemistry and Physics to facilitate academic and research activities.
CFS promotes peer learning. Mathematics Clinic and study groups are regular features of both CFS Petaling Jaya and Perak.
“I was exposed to sound theoretical knowledge, critical thinking skills and the latest research techniques and technologies,” said ex-UTAR Foundation in Science student Lee Keat Teng, who is now in his first year of Bachelor of Science (Hons) Biomedical Science.
UTAR promotes excellence by offering loans and scholarships to academically deserving students.
Students who obtained 7As and above in SPM will automatically be considered for the UTAR High Achievers Scholarship under the UTAR Foundation programmes.
Foundation students receiving this scholarship will have their tuition fees waived.
For its May 2015 intake, UTAR invites potential students to its Open Day on March 7 and 8, and April 4 and 5, from 9.30am to 5.30pm at UTAR Sungai Long, Bandar Sungai Long, and at the Kampar campus in Perak.
It will also extend counselling hours at both campuses (excluding public holidays) from March 7 onwards (8.30am-5.30pm on Monday to Friday and 9am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday).
