Flutter those lashes

EYE make-up was first used in ancient Egypt. The 20th century saw the beginning of convincing false eyelashes, or falsies.

There are also different tools such as eyelash curlers or mascara shields to enhance the eyes. Permanent eyelash tints and eyelash extensions have also become popular.

Similarly, the trend of wearing falsies is also widely popular. Also gaining popularity are eyelash conditioners designed to improve the health and increase the length of lashes.

However, you probably weren’t aware that the adhesives used for eyelash extensions carry the risk of infection and can even cause permanent damage.

Eyelash extensions – single synthetic fibres glued one by one to natural eyelashes are usually fixed in place by formaldehyde-based adhesives or other biological glues.

The adhesives can cause allergic reactions, as can the solvents used to remove them. In addition to that, cosmetic eyelash enhancers carry the risk of bacterial and fungal infections.

Even temporary false eyelashes can cause problems. Pulling them off can also remove natural lashes if they get in the way.

Regular use increases the chances of the follicles in our eyelids becoming permanently damaged and impairs hair growth.

The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) warns that among the potential dangers associated with cosmetic eyelash extensions and the adhesives used to apply them are allergies and infections of the cornea and eyelid, permanent or temporary loss of eyelashes and eyelid swelling.

There are a number of diseases or disorders involving the eyelashes – for example, madarosis, also known as milphosis is the abnormal loss of eyelashes. Blepharitis is chronic inflammation of the eyelids.

Demodex folliculorum are parasitic mites that live in the eyelash follicles. They feed on sebaceous secretions and dead cells and reproduce inside the follicle, infecting the eyelids.

Nowadays, through extensive years of research, cosmetic laboratories have created many products made with natural ingredients to promote eyelash growth.

Natural ingredients such as mulberry root extract promote better growth of your eyelashes and provide much-needed nutrients to strengthen and lengthen your eyelashes.

Mulberry root extract has been used for centuries in traditional medicine for its ability to promote metabolism and stimulate hair growth due to its high level of vitamin C and antioxidant properties. Tips on using mascara: – Apply from the inner corner of your lashes and work outwards. Rotate the wand slightly in each section to deposit more mascara onto your lashes.

– Position the brush from the innermost area of your lash line and pull outwards and upwards. Repeat this process up to three times for a dramatic look.

Apply mascara on the bottom lashes as well to give the appearance of wider, larger eyes. See results in four to six weeks.
