Proper nutrition for children

-

AMOTHER’S heart is always with her kids. Children are one of the most important assets for a woman.

When the kids are still young, mothers always try their best to feed them well with good nutrition and send them to various classes to help them develop a strong and healthy body and reach their full potential to achieve their ambition.

For children to absorb all that is taught and perform their best in all aspects of their academics and co-curriculum, they need to eat the right nutrients and portions from the food pyramid.

Good nutrition is important for a kid’s growth and development. Without good nutrition, kids can tire easily and experience compromised immunities and impaired physical and mental growth.

Here are some suggestions to ensure your active child gets all the nutrition he needs:

1. Plan ahead

Due to packed schedules, planning ahead and serving proper meals during your kid’s mealtime is important.

Make sure you choose a healthy recipe and make a list of the ingredients needed before heading for the supermarket.

Setting aside and preparing the raw ingredients (washing, marinating and storing) the day or night before would ensure you will be

cooking more efficiently.

2. Remove processed food from your family menu

Convenience could become the downfall of a busy family. Buying fast food or serving processed food that requires just the press of a button to heat up is super easy to do. However, these types of food not only lack essential vitamins and minerals, but most contain food additives such as preservatives, flavouring and colouring that may potentially cause health problems. Solution: Stay away from them as much as possible.

3. Prepare snacks in bags

Instead of junk or processed food, give your child healthy snacks, such as cereals, sandwiches, fruits and veggie sticks, which he can bring along as he goes about his busy day.

These snacks can easily be packed in convenient lunch bags or containers. Take-along snacks allow your kid to be readily accessible to nutritious food whenever he’s hungry or needs a boost of energy.

4. Give a good vitamin supplement

Even after trying your best to ensure the best and healthiest meals possible for your kid, you might still wonder whether he’s getting all the nutrients needed. As such, giving him a good daily multivitamin with omega-3 fish oil is a great way to ensure he’s getting the essential nutrients his body and brain need.

A multivitamin supplement that combines the goodness of 16 types of essential vitamins and minerals along with brain-boosting fish oil may help kids obtain the adequate level of nutrients their bodies need to grow and develop. Omega-3 (DHA) is an important nutrient for children because it helps promote their brain function, eye health and healthy behaviour.

As most children do not like the fishy taste that typically comes with fish oil, a pleasant berry-flavoured fish oil, which can either be chewed or swallowed, could make it a kid’s favourite.

1) Don’t pack anything new You will be inviting Murphy’s Law of Travel. If you put in those new shoes, you’re going to get blisters. If you pack that new blouse, you will discover it is transparent. So, wear everything at least once before you pack it.

2) Take a hat A soft hat will keep you warm if temperatures suddenly drop, cool if the sun comes out – and you can hide rat’s nest hair if you haven’t found a nice hairdresser.

3) Bring along a universal adapter

If you try to find one abroad, it will be in a small shop at the other end of town. Yes, Murphy’s Law again. And don’t forget your camera and phone chargers.

4) Take a reusable water bottle Locals know where to get water at a reasonable price but in touristy places, you may have to pay a fortune.

5) Take a small medicine kit A couple of plasters, antiseptic cream, cream for sore muscles, anti-diarrhoea pills and a painkiller can be a lifesaver.
