Brushing up on a global language
ENGLISH is now the global language of business. And to help students improve their command of the language, Malvern International Academy has established an English Language School with experienced teachers, small classes of three to 15 students and a computer laboratory.
Its English curriculum is developed at Malvern House in the United Kingdom, which was established in 2000 and accredited by the British Council in 2003. It currently has 3,000 students every year from over 100 countries.
As English is the official language in 52 countries, it is a useful language to learn for international travel. English is also now the language of diplomacy.
Realising the importance of English, the Government has started implementing a new curriculum to boost English language learning among the younger generation.
In a survey by online recruitment company Malaysia is placed third compared with five other countries in South-East Asia on the English proficiency level. As most reference books and articles in colleges and universities are in English, it has become a priority for students to develop the required English proficiency. With this in mind, Malvern has developed English programmes considering the varying language requirements of students from different countries through a supportive, engaging and fun learning environment.
In the ever-changing world of academia, English is fast becoming an accepted norm. In the past few years, the world’s top business schools and universities have been pushing to make English the teaching medium.
“It’s become almost a cliché that speaking English well is a big help in the business world and this becomes more true as international trade expands every year, bringing new countries and nations into contact.
“Many of the best MBA programmes around the world are taught in English, so speaking it effortlessly can put you in a position to get the best training and credentials,” says Malvern International academic director Assoc Prof Sharmila Sethu.
Malvern’s English language programmes are based on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). By benchmarking its courses on international standards, it equips students to enter certificate, diploma and tertiary level education with the required English proficiency to communicate effectively in various social settings.
Malvern prepares them by providing academic English language skills necessary to enter Certificate, Foundation and Diploma courses.
