Bridge to elite universities

- Daily Telegraph, The Times The

WITH a reputation for outstanding educational achievement, excellent facilities and enriching extracurricular activities, Cardiff Sixth Form College (CSFC) focuses on individual care and inspires students to make the most of their talents. CSFC is recognised by and

as providing students with an exceptional education and as a top A-Level provider in the United Kingdom. It has once again been ranked top of the A-Level League tables, achieving 95% A-A*.

The college has built its reputation on enabling students to gain entry to elite universities. In 2014, 16 students went to Oxbridge, 21 to study medicine, 11 to University College of London, 12 to London School of Economics, and nine to Imperial.

All 21 students held offers from Oxbridge for September 2014, including six to study medicine and seven to study engineering.

Besides, a number of students choose to study at Hong Kong University or Chinese Hong Kong University.

This year, the college won three Crystal Awards from The Education Advisers as Top UK Co-Educational Boarding School, Top Independent Sixth Form College and Top Independent School.

The college hosts a range of in-house extracurricular activities which foster teamwork and discipline, including sports, music, debate and the arts.

Skills acquired here carry over in work placements at home and on the Goodwill Ambassador Programme in Malaysia and Bahrain.

International trips (CERN), competitions such as the Science Olympiads and NASA Space Settlement Design Competition (ISSDC) allow students to push themselves academically while adding a global dimension to their work experience portfolios.

Located in the vibrant city of Cardiff, a city awarded the highest “feel good factor” in the UK Survey of best places to live, this small college prides itself on the fact that its students form strong bonds with each other and encouraged to participate in a wide variety of extracurricular activities in a friendly environment. The aim is to prepare students for a well-balanced, modern life.

Some of CSFC’s exemplary Malaysian students who have excelled under the college’s care and guidance include former student of Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School, James Liew Vun Tak who scored four A*s in A-Levels for Physics, Chemistry, Further Mathematics and Mathematics.

He is heading for the University of Cambridge in Engineering and he finds CSFC to be rewarding and fruitful thanks to the exceptional teachers and staff.

The teachers are experienced, and constantly motivate students to ensure they are fully prepared for all examinations.

Liew attributed his AS exam results to his teachers’ effort and dedication despite his average SPM results.

To be well-rounded students, CSFC encourages them to be actively involved in co-curricular activities. The school offers numerous opportunities to display their strengths and improve their weaknesses.

Liew represented CSFC in the International Space Settlement Design Competition in Houston, Texas, where he worked with 50 people from various backgrounds to come up with a workable design.

Another vital tool is work experience and the school arranges placements for students. Liew shadowed a civil engineer, which further widened his horizons towards engineering.

The college provides students the best support for Universities and Colleges Admissions Service by offering personal statements and mock interview workshops that prepare them for tough challenges.

CSFC is currently processing applications for its September 2015 intake. As places are limited, early application is advised.

The Top Achiever Scheme offers scholarships up to 100% on tuition fees only (worth £30,000 or RM166,000).
