Excellent in accounting studies
tUNKU Abdul Rahman University College (TAR University College) is highly regarded for its outstanding reputation in providing a solid business education, particularly in accounting where it is held in high esteem by the industry and academia.
Since 1971, with the commencement of its business programme, the institution has amassed a long list of awards and accolades won by the students in the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) examinations.
The recent addition to its long list of achievements is the excellent performance by two students in the ACCA June 2014 examination – Amanda Ng Wen Si, a Diploma in Business Studies (Accounting) graduate from Penang Branch Campus and Ooi Yee Tong, a student of the Advanced Diploma in Business Studies (Financial Accounting), Kuala Lumpur Main Campus.
They won the Top 1 Affiliate and Top 2 Affiliate positions in Malaysia respectively. Top Affiliates are awarded based on total marks obtained for the five professional level papers sat and passed in the first attempt.
When interviewed, Ng said: “I feel very honoured to have received this award to become the Top 1 ACCA Affiliate in Malaysia as I did not expect it.”
As to how she answered the questions in the professional papers, she said, “I followed the lecturer’s advice on how to tackle the examination questions. Basically, the professional level papers require some critical thinking in resolving the problems.”
She also expressed gratitude towards her lecturers whom she felt possessed high levels of professionalism in teaching.
Ng had much to say about the syllabus or academic curriculum offered at TAR University College and how it had prepared her for the examination.
“The lecturers’ self-prepared notes which are examination-focused – the study text, past year questions and answers gave me a thorough understanding of the topic. Besides that, my lecturers also taught me how to write a good, analytical answer within the time limit.”
Her advice to juniors pursuing the accounting programme would be to have a clear objective, which is to pass the ACCA examination within the allocated time.
“Listen to your lecturers’ advice and follow their instructions. Effort and hard work are required if you want to achieve good results. There is no shortcut to success.”
Ooi said that TAR University College provides a peaceful and conducive study environment. She commended her lecturers for being experienced, knowledgeable and dedicated in imparting their knowledge, not only in content, but also the spirit of the subject.
The recent achievements by TAR University College students demonstrate the quality teaching and programme delivery in preparing students for the ACCA qualification.
TAR University College has a long-standing relationship with ACCA that dates back to 1971 and had recently been conferred yet again the ACCA Platinum Status for 2014 until 2015, which is the highest level of accreditation from ACCA to universities and colleges globally under the ACCA’s Approved Learning Partner – Student Tuition programme.
