Career in radiography offers bright prospects
A RADIOGRAPHER is an important member of the diagnostic health care team that works closely with radiologists, doctors and nurses.
The core duty of a radiographer is to diagnose the nature of a disease or injury using X-rays and also to produce high-quality medical images for pathological and medical condition diagnosis. These images are important to medical specialists and doctors in managing their patients.
Their roles are diverse and challenging as they not only work with X-ray machines, but also handle hi-tech equipment such as Computed Tomography Scan (CT scan), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography (PET).
For female radiographers, they also get to handle the mammogram machine used to diagnose breast cancer. Career as a radiographer A career as a radiographer offers excellent prospects, as there is high demand in both private and government hospitals, both locally and internationally. As new technology constantly evolves, all radiographers have to continuously upgrade themselves with training and the latest information on new techniques and equipment.
With all these additional qualifications and experience, radiographers will then have the opportuni- ty to be promoted to a radiographer manager and beyond.
Medical imaging programme The Vision College Diploma in Medical Imaging (DMI) offers a wide range of syllabus, which includes physics of equipment, basic care in handling patients and techniques to acquire images.
It also helps prepare students to become excellent and in-demand radiographers among health care organisations.
Continuous exposure to the clinical field for 18 weeks, in both private and government hospitals before graduation puts the programme one step ahead of other institutions.
The programme is supported by PTPTN and also collaborates with various hospitals such as those with Siemens and TDM Berhad. A recent partnership with Tawau Specialist Hospital shows its dedication in preparing graduates for future employment immediately upon graduation.
Vision College also owns a diagnostic centre within the college that provides ultrasound, X-ray and mammogram checks for the public.
Exposing students to a real clinical setup will prepare them mentally and physically to be become excellent radiographers. Upon graduation, these DMI graduates will also be given an option to further their studies in the Postgraduate Diploma of Medical Ultrasonography (Asia).
